Do I need a license if I watch 1 to 2 kids in California

I would like to start watching children in my home. I'm not sure if i can do it without a license. I live in California please help.

San Luis Obispo Santa Barbara Counties allow you to watch one families children without a license. They recommend you get "Trustlined" , basically fingerprint and background check. I believe this allows you access to the food program as well. Not sure about other counties.
