I have the day after Thanksgiving off also!

EntropyControlSpecialist 11-08-2012 04:47 PM

I'm taking off paid 2 days for Thanksgiving and 8 from Christmas Eve to Jan. 2 so I'm not.

REALLY looking forward to Thanksgiving break!

Soccermom 11-08-2012 05:22 PM

I am closed too! :) Yay!

littlemissmuffet 11-08-2012 08:27 PM

In Canada it's "Rememberance Day"... but yes, I'm closed. I close all stats (my province has 10) plus Christmas Eve and Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) - all with pay.

jojosmommy 11-08-2012 08:45 PM

Not me. I was last year. This year I pulled it and columbus day. No feelings either way on it this year I guess.

My husband is a vet and we will be honoring him, in fact we had a special dinner tonight, and have two events scheduled this weekend. But as far as daycare is concerned, Im open.

Texasjeepgirl 11-08-2012 08:56 PM

I'm NOT CLOSED...

Veteran's Day...
Columbus Day...
and Martin Luther King Day..
I don't currently take those..

I take:

Martin Luther King Day
Presidents Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving/Day After
Christmas Eve/Christmas
New Years Eve/New Years

Wow, that really looks like alot when you type it out. Its about one day a month but it sure doesn't feel like it. Its actually two weeks total.

I guess I don't take anything in March, April, June, August, October so maybe thats why it seems few and far between.

All my parents have these days off also, so I might as well take them and TEXAS JEEP GIRL you should also (well the three you listed):Sunny:

bunnyslippers 11-08-2012 09:16 PM

I take Veteran's Day, the day before and the day after Thanksgiving, and Dec.23-Jan.2 for Christmas.

I love the holiday season - so many breaks!!!!

thatdivalady 11-09-2012 04:30 PM

Silly me didn't add in all of my holidays this year. So I'm not off on Monday. Also, my parents mostly work in social service or hospitals so they are definitely not off anyway.

I did, however, put ALL of the state holidays in for 2013 so it will be a good year for me!

Brooksie 11-09-2012 04:57 PM

Nope. Not me. I only take off for major holidays. Mostly because I have off from Christmas Eve- New Years day... :D So excited.

Sprouts 11-10-2012 04:38 PM

Me me me! I take all federal holidays :D

Sunshine74 11-10-2012 10:26 PM

Nope. We rarely close, except for weekends. I think just:

Memorial Day
4th of July
Labor Day
Day after Thanksgiving (that one is new, just in the past couple of years)
Christmas
New Year's Day

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, we close early- 4:30 instead of 6.

Daycarelady1979 11-11-2012 03:37 AM

Do you guys all still get paid for these days off?

Do any of the dcp's ever question that?

How do you have it worded in your contract?

spud912 11-11-2012 06:58 AM

I have 10 paid holidays. The only one that is not federal is Christmas Eve, which was substituted for Martin Luther King. All of my parents have 90-100% of my holidays off paid so I don't feel too bad for charging. I also take UP TO 10 additional days off per year unpaid (either for serious illness or vacation). This year, it ended up being 5 of the 10 days. Next year it will be 9 of the 10 (hopefully). I don't feel bad for this either because I give my full time parents 10 vacation days they can use without paying me.

providerandmomof4 11-11-2012 07:56 AM

I do not take Veterans Day. As a matter of fact, I have sa kids coming all day that normally come half days.:( Boo...

I absolutely get paid for these days off (10 days vacation, 10 days statutory holidays, 5 sick/personal days).

No, parents never question this because a) most of them get all 10 stats off with pay, get 2+ vacations weeks per year with pay and well above and beyond 5 paid sick days! and b) this is one of the first things I go over in the interview process - and I let them know that there is ZERO room for negotion or discussion regarding my paid days off.

My contract simply states that I take all statutory holidays off with pay (if one falls on a Saturday, I close the Friday; falls on a Sunday I close the Monday); that I take 10 paid days of vacation per year (to be determine in January of each year - and I hand out a schedule) and that I am entitled to 5 sick/personal days per year (wherein I will give as amuch notice as possible).

I do not give free/discounted vacation time to families and I do not give free or discounted sick days to families. I have NEVER not made my full monthly income.

daycarediva 11-11-2012 09:10 AM

Nope, I took most of my days around thanksgiving and christmas this year. :)

Plus, I get paid extra for the SA kids being here, and since my own SA kids are here, they keep each other entertained (for the most part). :D

likethis this is not a holiday for me!

DCMom 11-11-2012 11:57 AM

This year I didn't take it off. Some years I do, so I don't; it depends on what my mix of families are. This year everyone has to work so I do too :)

MyKzooFamily 11-11-2012 08:57 PM

I have to work on my holiday sheet for when I 'officially' start taking kids. I think per Michigan law, I can't take more than 10 days off, but I assumed that was personal days, and not holidays. I'll have to look into that. But I will probably be open most holidays that aren't major, and take days off like the day after Thanksgiving and others around Christmas and New Years, and the 4th of July.

Creek 11-12-2012 05:41 AM

I didn't take it, boo!

SilverSabre25 11-12-2012 06:02 AM

hey, look at that, I got it off anyway...nifty.

Sorry the dcks are sick...but enjoying solititude with my own kiddos

Cat Herder 11-12-2012 07:03 AM

I did not close this year since it fell on a Sunday.

Next year I will be closed, with pay.

DH is a Veteran. lovethis

Angelmichelle 11-12-2012 12:37 PM

We are officially closed, but provisionally open for emergencies (since all of the parents had off except for a two families). We had 3 come; two were gone by noon and the last one is asleep and probably won't wake up until Gma gets here at 4:30. She's on a new seizure medication and just had her dose at 3 so she'll likely be down for the next hour or so.

Wow! Lucky for you and lucky for your parents! I'm jealous! :)

I work full time (salary) in a small family owned professional office. I get 10 vacation days/year, up to 5 sick days (although the general culture is the fewer the better and there are a couple people that pride themselves on only using 0-1/year) and 6 holidays.

If I want the Friday after Thanksgiving off I have to use a vacation day. It's the same way with the Monday before Christmas and the Monday before New Years this year. I think I'll be working New Years Eve (so I'll work Monday, have Tuesday off then work Wed-Fri) because I'm running out of vacation time and my provider isn't available January 11 - at least it will be quiet since most people will probably turn it into a 4 day weekend.

Nickel 11-12-2012 03:00 PM

I was open today. I am a veteran and DH is active duty, but all of my parents had to work, my dd had school, and dh worked today too, so there was no point in celebrating it today. We did however celebrate the Marine Corps birthday on Saturday and Veteran's Day Sunday!

I am also taking 2 vacation days this week to go to the Marine Corps Ball, so I don't feel bad working today. :) AND dh came home early so I could run out and get my dressed altered, so I am a happy camper today :p

I am VERY grateful for my time off. But, I also feel entitled to it because my parents get so much time off. The majority of my parents have EDOs (earned days off) which means they have every second or every Friday (or Monday off)! The majority of my parents have 3-4 weeks paid vacation per year - which means that in a two parent home, they have a total of 6-8 weeks off paid if needed. Many of the corporations here also allow for one paid sick day per month (12 per year)! And all of my parents have family in town to help cover sick/emergency days, vacation days, etc as well. I don't ever feel guilty for a second about taking my time off - I earned it, and I know I'm not putting anyone out!!

Don' t you control the days you take off? Can your state really dictate how many days you close??
