We have several 6 cube, 9 cube and 12 cube cubbies in our daycare for various purposes - diaper/spare clothing cubbies; book shelves and toy shelving.

We use the canvas totes in the private areas of our home on these cube cubbies - but not for daycare because: a) the children cannot see what's inside (I find attatched pictures get ripped off easily), and b) overall, they are not strong enough for long-term use.

Instead, I buy different sized, shaped and colored buckets and baskets (all heavy plastic) with slots/holes in them to store the toys in, which fit nicely in each cube. They are sturdy, and the kiddos can see what's inside each of them.

For larger toys (Little People sets, large tractors, Peek-a-Block sets, etc) I just store them on top of the shelving units.
