How Do You Respond

I agreed to take a dcg earlier than normal because they have a family crisis.
Grandfather is dying and mom has left state to be with them for the duration.
So dad has to drop off early until further notice.

I am SO OK with doing this for them.

The early drop off time is 7am.

1 hour earlier than any other child.
So I'm up an hour earlier.

Which ... again.. is FINE.. if they show up at 7. Dad has struggled getting out the door in time on his own with dcg which I can understand so he has been averaging 7:20- 7:30

Well it is 8:30!

I texted dad "is ______ joining us today?"

his response

"Sorry.. maybe later. We will let you know later"

I would respond with "Okay, I just needed to check. I hope everything's okay. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!"

It's possible that the crisis got worse.

i agree. i dont get to worked up when parents are late for dropping off, and you dont know if maybe grandpa took a turn for the worse. i know it stinks getting up early for no reason sometimes, but it happens. its 8:55 right now, and i'm supposed to have 3 kids here already, since 7. none are here, so im puttering around, cleaning a bit and getting laundry done.

I think dad slept in and is taking the day off but I'm a cynic these days.

But I responded with "OK, just let me know before you come incase I am not here or it is nap time etc... and please let me know if she is definitely not going to be coming"

My response would have been, "Ok, but please let me know next time because I am getting up early for you."

Not mean, just to the point, and makes him realize that you are doing this JUST for them.

When you see them later today I would ask, "is everything ok with grampa today? When you didn't show up on time this morning I was concerned that things had taken a drastic turn for the worse."......see what they say....if arriving late had nothing to do with grampa....I would say "Are you still wanting to drop off an hour early? .....I am getting up early everyday for lil junior and if you don't require my care that early we will just go back to the old schedule." If he tells you that he still needs this extra hour I would put a great big ol' smile on my face and say "please call the night before if he won't be here by 7:10..."
Why is it we have to spend so much time teaching the PARENTS manners?

Ps. if they don't come today I would call tonight at home.....same conversation as above .....so that you know whether or not you can sneak an extra hour of sleep.

I agree with some others, find out why they were late/not coming before saying too much. Once you know the story, go from there!

Sounds like his thoughts are somewhere else. Must be overwhelmed.
