What in the world is wrong with people.

today dcd comes into pick up his boy. We are in the middle of singing some songs. Mind you there are 12 of us.

I guess the dcd answers his phone while we are in class singing and then has the nerve to say, LOUDLY over us, can you please quiet down, I can't hear and I am on the phone.

I was so mad that I had the kids sing louder.

I am really really starting to NOT understand and dislike people. Who comes into someone elses house and tells them to be quiet?

My mouth is wide open! No He Didn't!

I have a dcm who, almost every time she picks up, she comes in on her phone! She has never told us to quiet down, but it's still sooooo annoying!
Once she was on her phone, picked dcb up, waved and left. Then she has the nerve to call after hours to ask something about his day....

Just using a cell phone during pick up/drop off would be a violation of my policies. I have it in my policies that pick ups and drop offs are important transition times and that cell phone use is not allowed at this time {medical/ family emergencies being the only exceptions}. At the preschool co-op I did student teaching at they had similar policies with a passive-aggressive note near the sign-in/out sheets that say "Thank you for not using your cell phone during drop-off and pick-up".

I had to do the same thing. Mom of three sibling set would come in every night at midnight at pickup tacking on her cell phone with her husband in prison who was calling illegally from a smuggled in cell phone. I warned her once because he bonus room inside the front door had he infant asleep and she woke him up. Next day, sign went up. She says what's the sign for. I explained. Pickup and drop off I like to be able to communicate with parents. Cell phones are not allowed. End of story. She wasn't happy but I don't care.

It is a policy in my handbook for the children's benefit. It discusses giving your child your full attention.

"Hey, Bob, I was taken aback yesterday when you told the preschoolers to quiet down during their singing time at daycare. If you could finish phone calls in the car before coming into the daycare from now on that would be great. Thanks!" -walks away

Oh I forgot to add. I did have a new client try this without saying a word to me..so I talked to her about her child like I did not notice. She was annoyed and told them she would have to call them back.

I never thought of having to make that a policy! Just another one to add to accommodate the lack of parental politeness!

I don't understand the parents that pick up while on the phone! Do they do this to try and look important? I think it makes them look foolish for 3 reasons.
1. If you are talking to a friend/family member, tell them you will call them back after picking up your child.
2. If it is an important call/business call, it is not very professional for them to hear daycare noises in the background of your call.
3. It is rude to me and their child.

I break most of mine of doing this by not letting their child go with them until they are off the phone and able to speak to me and their child. Yesterday I said "Hold on, Mommy must have an important call. We will talk to her when she is paying attention." She got off the phone quickly.

I can't believe that dad told you/your daycare children to be quiet in your own house! Rude!

I think my dcm does it because she actually wants me to hear her. She'll even sit in the car forever on the phone and then come in, still on it! Then once she's like "sorry, I'm making $50 an hour to talk to this lady (about who knows what)" like she was bragging.

"Wow! I make $60 an hour with $1 per minute late fees when you are on the phone in the car.."

If someone comes in with a cell phone to their ear, they get an immediate and long-winded synopsis of their child's day... in great detail. I keep talking for as long as I can think of things to say... even if I have to make things up. The phone is invisible to me. I don't care if they keep it to their ear. I don't even care if they are still attempting to talk to the person on the other end. I just talk, and talk, and talk...... as if the phone did not exist.

I remember you posting this before, and I think I responded that she must be a phone sex operator.

That's great!

I also have it in my policies to not talk on the phone......not like a "policy" stops some people though .

I hope that it doesn't happen again, but I would just respond with "If it is too loud in MY HOME for you to hear on your phone, you're welcome to step outdoors!", and continue on with my business.

And then be more than happy to charge late fees if they're past their pick up time.

I have a strict no cell phone policy. It’s reason for immediate termination.

Daycare, your clients never cease to amaze me. Why you try so hard to be "nice" to them whlile they walk on you is beyond me.

My response would have been "No, but you can take it back outside where it belongs." Simple, short, direct, no apology.

Nip it in the bud, as it happens, every time, and life becomes easier.

Love this! I would love to see their faces! What do they usually do?

I'm going to do this next time! I usually just talk to the kids while my dcm stands there on her phone.

You are not a dork, you still want them to like you.

I have this vision that some day one of the parents will find the exact hot button and you will reign down on him 5 years worth of rage... I almost pity whomever that person will be.

About 10 yrs ago a parent put her finger to her lips as if to ssssh me at pick up.She then gestured to her child to come along got in her car and left.I was shocked. The next week a letter went out to all the parents ...no cell phone use at drop off or pick-up/They were told to finish their call before coming to the house and if they were late the late charge would apply.I have enforced the rule and it has been listed in the policies ever since.I was so livid. I would have to say something to that parent if it was me now.

I'm the same way. I just make myself do something and hurry and do it and walk away and try to forget.

Once, I had a dcm who "forgot" to pay. The next day dcb didn't come, so no payment again and then the next day he didn't come. Dh was mad that I didn't call dcm on Mon. so I hurriedly wrote out a text, hyperventilated, then said "1 2 3" and pushed send. My heart was pounding..lol She never called/texted back, but showed up with payment that night (claimed she didn't get the text until then). Dh answered the door and was very short and sarcastic with her-something I could never do, but had to laugh.

I have toughened up a little....a little.

I dont have a problem telling anyone to pay me or things that are routine. But for someone to come out of the blue to say somthing like this was shocking to me and I didn't know what to say.
