I put up a new ad this week for the first time in a long while because I want to go with a younger group and one of my current infant DCPs answered the ad after just telling me 3 damn days ago how happy he is here and how much she loves that.

WOW. Awkward is an understatement. Did you reply or tell her that it's you?

Is your ad advertising rates cheaper than the family is paying now?
I think no matter what families tell you, some (not all) are ALWAYS on the look out for more affordable care.
I wouldn't take it personally.

oh dang....keep us updated

No. I just decided to let her lead it. In the last email she told me she interviewed someone else that day and was going with them instead. This morning at drop off she told me a friend lost her job and was going to be taking him so I just let her lie and took her two week notice.

I actually had the exact same rate with less of a prepay discount than she gets now so it was more expensive care by about 100 a month.

WOW!
I would have said, "I figured you would go an alternate route when you replied to my craigslist ad for daycare. Best of luck."

Aww,
I'd try to find a way to let her know you know it was her that replied though.

I would probably reply to her craigslist email as yourself.
Something along the lines of, I really enjoyed having DCK in my care, as per your 2 week notice xxx will be your last day and we wish you the best.
It's not a mean email or anything but she would know

I would try to find something to email her about and hit the "reply" button on the email she sent you when she answered your CL ad so that at the bottom of the email
she could read HER inquiry. Then I'd not say Not. One. More. Word. About. It. Again. like if nothing had happened.
Something like this is what she should get ....

Hi Susan,
It's me, Wendy Wonderful. I just wanted to follow up on your two week notice and remind you that I will be using your 2 week deposit and apply it towards your final two weeks of care. I will have Little Johnny's belongings ready to go for you at pick on Friday September X since that will be his last day here.
It was great having you guys here. I sure will miss Johnny
Thanks!

Hi,
I was interested in some information about your opening.
Etc.
*** Just letting her know that I know would be enough for me to go along with the rest of my 2 weeks with a big fat huge smile on my face
And then when she walks in every morning for the next 2 weeks I would be really nice and ALWAYS have a huge smile on my face. I might even chuckle to myself a few times. I would find the whole thing pretty damn amusing lol

Ha! MV I would do that as well if the chance had already passed for me to mention I figured she would be pulling.

This is great!
Anyway you decide to do it, I would ABSOLUTELY let her know that it was you!

Just goes to show we really can't count on any of our clients staying can we?
My curiosity would want to know what made them decide to look for care elsewhere if they were so happy with your care. And definitely, let them know it was your ad on CL they inquired about!

I would have answered her and asked some questions about her opinion of her "current" provider.. just to see what she says about you.
