I have the day after Thanksgiving off also!

this is not a holiday for me!
DCMom 11:57 AM 11-11-2012
This year I didn't take it off. Some years I do, so I don't; it depends on what my mix of families are. This year everyone has to work so I do too
Brooksie 04:57 PM 11-09-2012
Nope. Not me. I only take off for major holidays. Mostly because I have off from Christmas Eve- New Years day...
So excited.
Sprouts 04:38 PM 11-10-2012
Me me me! I take all federal holidays
Sunshine74 10:26 PM 11-10-2012
Nope. We rarely close, except for weekends. I think just:
Memorial Day
4th of July
Labor Day
Day after Thanksgiving (that one is new, just in the past couple of years)
Christmas
New Year's Day
On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, we close early- 4:30 instead of 6.

Do you guys all still get paid for these days off?
Do any of the dcp's ever question that?
How do you have it worded in your contract?
spud912 06:58 AM 11-11-2012
I have 10 paid holidays. The only one that is not federal is Christmas Eve, which was substituted for Martin Luther King. All of my parents have 90-100% of my holidays off paid so I don't feel too bad for charging. I also take UP TO 10 additional days off per year unpaid (either for serious illness or vacation). This year, it ended up being 5 of the 10 days. Next year it will be 9 of the 10 (hopefully). I don't feel bad for this either because I give my full time parents 10 vacation days they can use without paying me.

I absolutely get paid for these days off (10 days vacation, 10 days statutory holidays, 5 sick/personal days).
No, parents never question this because a) most of them get all 10 stats off with pay, get 2+ vacations weeks per year with pay and well above and beyond 5 paid sick days! and b) this is one of the first things I go over in the interview process - and I let them know that there is ZERO room for negotion or discussion regarding my paid days off.
My contract simply states that I take all statutory holidays off with pay (if one falls on a Saturday, I close the Friday; falls on a Sunday I close the Monday); that I take 10 paid days of vacation per year (to be determine in January of each year - and I hand out a schedule) and that I am entitled to 5 sick/personal days per year (wherein I will give as amuch notice as possible).
I do not give free/discounted vacation time to families and I do not give free or discounted sick days to families. I have NEVER not made my full monthly income.

I have to work on my holiday sheet for when I 'officially' start taking kids. I think per Michigan law, I can't take more than 10 days off, but I assumed that was personal days, and not holidays. I'll have to look into that. But I will probably be open most holidays that aren't major, and take days off like the day after Thanksgiving and others around Christmas and New Years, and the 4th of July.

I didn't take it, boo!
SilverSabre25 06:02 AM 11-12-2012
hey, look at that, I got it off anyway...nifty.
Sorry the dcks are sick...but enjoying solititude with my own kiddos
Cat Herder 07:03 AM 11-12-2012
I did not close this year since it fell on a Sunday.
Next year I will be closed, with pay.
DH is a Veteran.

We are officially closed, but provisionally open for emergencies (since all of the parents had off except for a two families). We had 3 come; two were gone by noon and the last one is asleep and probably won't wake up until Gma gets here at 4:30. She's on a new seizure medication and just had her dose at 3 so she'll likely be down for the next hour or so.

Don' t you control the days you take off? Can your state really dictate how many days you close??
