I have an 18 month old dcb that has a horrible diaper rash. He goes from absolutely nothing to open sores. His mom sent Butt Paste, but I swear, I think it makes it worse. It's almost like it holds moisture in instead of drying it out. Do any of you have any home recipes or techniques that work? He's been here for 4 hours and have had 3 bowel movements. This is not unusual for him either, which is not helping matters. I feel so bad changing him because he's so sore and he cries. Then not to be graphic, but his last diaper obviously he's had raisins. Now the only things raisins do are get bigger in the system. I can't imagine that felt good passing those. Why would they give him those. ugh.

Saliva works apparently. My dcm said her oldest used to get awful rashes and she used her spit to treat it. Even her previous dc provider used her spit at diaper changes. Lol. It sounds nasty, but whatever works I guess.

Food grade corn starch powder
Original paste zinc oxide. I use th generic cheap stuff
Milk of magnesia mint. I use the off brand.
I mix the milk of mag with the corn starch powder to make a very very thick mix. It helps to warm it up to make the powder not be separated. Then I mix in the zinc to a thick paste.
This stuff really works. Clean the area very well without wiping. Pat dry. Lather. Do NOT try to wipe every bit off between changes because it nixes the point of it being a barrier.

In my experience, butt paste doesn't work. Our pediatrician actually recommended Vaseline as a first barrier, and then desitin. Also, make sure you are only using water to clean, baby wipes can sting. It also helps to get some air, so maybe mention they need to let it air out at home. The worst diaper rash I have ever seen was on a dcg here that wound up with yeast- they got a prescription and it went away (unfortunately it took me hounding them to go to the doctor).

This. I could be wrong, but I think the butt paste is supposed to be used to prevent only. So it would have to be put on when he's clear. I feel your pain. My "BIG pooper" is now 4 and potty trained. But he was exactly like your dcb - 4-5 BM's a day and going from clear to weeping sores in an instant

I had baby like this,dcd took dcb to the doctor...because anything was working...The doctor prescribed some cream over the counter I don't remenber whitch one lol...so we use this cream and normal diaper rash cream 3 times a day...and we live dcb with out diapers little bit,was some kind bacteria grown's and give those bad diapers rash...poor baby.It's work's great...after 4 days no more rash...also I have friend her baby had reallyyyyyy bad rash was because he was teething.

Thanks everyone! He's the only one I have today, so when he gets up from his nap I'm going to have him lay on a mat with no diaper on and watch some tv for a a half hour to let it get some air. We used to do that with our son and it did help a bit I believe mom does have prescription cream at home. Not sure how often she is supposed to put it on, but if it's more than twice a day, then she better bring it tomorrow.

My almost 15-month-old daughter had a bleeding diaper rash from having so many poops so I asked blandino what to do (since she runs an under 2 daycare) and she said get Resinol. I really was clueless since we cloth diaper and she had never had a rash before...yet alone a bleeding one. 
I ordered it from Amazon and WOW! It helped in one day to start the healing process. Nothing else worked on her poor sore, bleeding bottom while we waited two days for it to arrive. So, if it is THAT bad then you may suggest that?!
As a barrier, I love Vaseline on a totally dry and rash free rear end.

Another idea is coconut oil. One of my dcg gets horrible diaper rashes with her CD. I put a little coconut oil on it and it heals them quickly.

I had one dcg whose doctor prescribe yeast infection cream. It worked great.

A+D original ointment is the best in our household. It has healed up my kid's rashes quickly.

Whenever any of my babies gets a yeast infection, we use an OTC cream such as Monistat to treat it verses having to get a prescription each time. If it is a yeast infection, the OTC creams work great too!I had one dcg whose doctor prescribe yeast infection cream. It worked great.

My little one is potty trained but get horrible rashes from not wiping well, or if she eats dairy. Last go around we had to get a prescription, but at that visit our pediatrician reccomended adding baking soda to her bath water- it's made a huge difference in how often and how bad her rashes are!
