Well, I never called it a party.....we had our feast today.

We made a nice craft, made butter, made whipped cream, read Thanksgiving books then ate our feast.

One kid asked when we're having our party. Another kid asked when we are having our other dessert.

I already know the answer......candy. They want candy. It's not a party without candy.

Same here.

I'd just whip up some cinnamon oat bran muffins, top them with cream cheese and sprinkles and call it a party.

Yup. I don't even use the "p" word anymore

I have come to realize that unless they are allowed to run around like crazy and ingest a lot of sugar, they don't believe it's a party
I got tired of setting up games, making healthy treats, etc. only to have to stop because of out of control kiddos or whining "bored" kiddos. No thanks.

Everyone has a different opinion I guess. A party to me, includes bottles and lampshades being accessible.

I call everything a 'celebration'.

We celebrate Thanksgiving by....(baking mini apple pies this year)
We celebrate Christmas by.... (book and cookie exchange, pj's and a christmas show)

NO PARTY. Party=running and screaming.

When I have a party, I make a sign-up list so parents participate but they have to bring what I list so I control the issue....I do allow for some sweet taste on party days but it is limited....I never list a time because I really do not want parents there

Oh man.....and when the grandparents ask when the party is! So awkward, but I don't want them there. I have to still cook and clean.....and kids are crazy with grandparents or parents. I can't deal with chaos.

If parents ask, I have found as long as I keep my parties mid-morning, I never have parents because if they come, the rule is they take their kids when they leave.....so no one wants to do that!

But again.....what IS the party. We do stuff all day......is it the goodies? I wouldn't want them here all day....so I guess I'd say from 10:00 to 10:15. Haha

I consider the party the eating part.... nothing more, nothing less!

I made the mistake of telling the kids we were having a special treat the other day (meaning tv time). They kept wondering where the candy was.

A plastic disposable table cloth and holiday plates indicate a party here.

Candy and chaos.

We just had a "Fall Festival" and they kept asking when the party was...they asked it after they put on their costumes...after they went apple bobbing...after they painted their pumpkin...etc. No candy was present and it wasn't a party.

When a child brings in something like cookies, cupcakes, donuts for their birthday and we sit down and eat it 30 minutes before I close they consider that a party. So...FOOD. You must have sugar laden food.

YES! treat=candy! I NEVER serve candy.

I had to explain that treat=something special we do, not necessarily food.

treat=tv, popcorn, juice, new toys, new paint, new books, muffins for snack.

I'm having a party right now! All kids gone, DC mom brought Starbucks (she even called my DH to ask what kind I like), and I'm watching the view. According to YOUR definitions....THIS is a party! Sugar laden and television = party. Ooooh, and I have leftover apple pie and homemade whipped cream left from the kids "party" today. Double party for me!

My kids have no problem when I call a special day a party. We do things theme related all day long. For example tomorrow is pj. Party. The kids will for the most part have a typical day. We will have cereal for one of our snacks. Have eggs and Walffels with veggies for lunch to go with our theme. Kids will do something for craft that's bed related. Also we will have a pj parade and march around either out or inside with musical instruments (my kids equal to pared to s party day.)
But for any of our party's I dont invite parents at all. If the kids get a treat it may be mini cupcakes for birthdays or we make / decor ate small cookies or cupcakes the kids will do a few but only eat one the rest are made for mom and dad and sent home.

I do some low key parties....X-mas, Halloeen, Valentine's Day but gosh why does everything have to be a party?

A thanksgiving party? No!!!

I plan like you. We make butter, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pudding...homemade tapioca pudding with a couple spoonfuls of pumpkin. Yes, it's a called feast Here too!

Kids enjoy Simple fun!
