What kind of pillow do you use for your daycare kids at nap time? I've always used regular full size pillows, but now that I've redone my blankets and naptime supply storage I'm looking for a much smaller pillow. I've searched online but don't want to spend $20+ per child just for a pillow. Thinking of making my own...

Thanks!

I use travel pillows. They are about half the size of a regular pillow or smaller. I bought them at either Target or Walmart.

That was my plan. I went to walmart last night. Ours doesn't carry them. No target in my area. I looked online. They are not available online from Walmart (instore only). I'll check online at Target. Thanks for your reply.

I use the travel pillows from Wal-Mart also but I haven't seen them there in a long time. You could always use inexpensive throw pillows.

I bought some color your own drawstring backpacks from oriental trading. It was $6 for 12. I let the kids color them with sharpies, ironed them, cut off the strings, stuffed them and sewed up the end. They are holding up great, an awesome size (6x10) and worked out to about $1 per pillow

Hey, this is a great idea!! I have some of these from oriental trading in my closet! Do you wash yours? I wash all my nap stuff every friday, so I want to make sure they'll hold up to laundering. Or maybe I could get a pillow case for them...

I use travel pillows and cases. I found mine at Target, it was around $3 for the pillow and $3 for the case.

Do you yourself use pillows? I do, and I would definitely be uncomfortable without one. I would never not give a kid a pillow unless they said they didn't want to use one.

Same here. The only ones who ever ask are the parents.

I have never given the kids pillows either, and no one has ever asked for one.

I do not give the children pillows for their cots, either, and they have never asked for them.

I wouldn't feel comfortable just washing the pillowcase for the children and would need to wash the entire pillow for my sanity. I'll save myself the hassle!

I was thinking the same thing. A pillow cover will not keep the pillow inside sanitary when kids drool and whatnot.

No kid has ever asked for a pillow so I never thought about it. One DCB just turned 3 and has recently begun asking for one so I'm happy to give it.

I don't use pillows either. My 2.5 yr daughter using one at night on her bed but never asks for one at naptime when she is on her nap mat.

Yes I use a pillow. parents give children pillows way before it is safe for them,. They all fall fast asleep and no one asks for one. Looking at them sleeping their spines are all in a neutral position so I do not think they need it . my kids do sleep on cots so the head is a bit higher than the body anyway.

Yes the pillow would need to be washed weekly for state standards unless it is covered in a plastic cover that could be sprayed down weekly.

Oh, and to the question about if WE use pillows ...

No, I do not. I prefer to lay flat. None of the children have an issue falling asleep here without a pillow so I assume they don't DISLIKE it.

All of my dcks bring their little pillow pets

But if you want to supply them I would do as someone else said and get some cheap throw pillows. Or do what jessrlee did, those pillow she made are ADORABLE.

So far I've gotten 3 little pillows made out of the drawstring bags. The kids were argueing over who's it was going to be as I'm stitching up the end. They are pretty excited about them! Thank you everyone for the ideas!

My husband is in the military and he was able to get them on base for really cheap, maybe $4? They are the size of travel pillows, and camo print of course!

if you have the full size already...just cut them in half and sew them up to make a travel size.

some wal-marts carry's the travel size...some do not...you just have to keeping check around.

If you really like your daycare kiddos....get the small pillow pets...my own kids use them at nap time...found at wal-mart for $6.00 or online.

Actually cutting a regular pillow in half was my initial idea, but I got the stink eye from my husband so I thought I'd explore other options.

My DCKs bring their own pillows. The only requirements are they must fit completely inside their cubby with no overage and they be taken name weekly to be cleaned. Most of them bring in those foldable pillow pets.

Same here. In 12 years it has never been an issue. My kids are not laying on a hard floor, they have never complained at all.

I use the Irma pillows from Ikea. They are super cheap so every time a new child starts they get a fresh one. I don't use covers- I just toss the whole pillow in the wash. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/pr...15/?query=irma

My kids bring travel sized pillows and we just wash them once a week or they take them home to wash.

I bought travel pillows at Walgreens for all the kids to use on their cots. I also bought 6 different color cases online. They ended up laying on the floor next to their cots...everyday. So they are put away now.....

travel pillows from Walmart. I think it's around $5 total for the zippered case and pillow. They have lots of different cases if you want everyone to have a different one.
