Crazy8's thread about not getting any clients and being worried got me thinking....is it an area thing or is it country wide?

So two questions...

1) Are you full (Yes or No)

2) What area of the US/Canada or what state do you live in?

I don't know of anyone in my area that is full. There are way too many providers and way too many churches providing daycare.

I should add in-I'm legally unlicensed until Sept of this year, so I only have 4 children, I'm not sure if I'll be able to fill my other 2 spots once I do gain that license. (I only have 2 open-3 yo DD counts into numbers, 2 year old DCG has newborn sister starting in Oct.)

Am I full-Yes!!!! With lots of calls lately

Area I live-The Northwest

Its funny the calls I've been reaceiving lately as we have/had the highest unemployment in our state for a long time and people are still not working. So I'm surprised at the calls I'm receiving.

I think what it is, is people looking for new childcares. I think the "cheap" ones they find really aren't worth the money maybe.

Full (with a waiting list and calls everyday)
Minnesota; Twin Cities metro

Unlike Sharlan, we are losing home providers right and left in my area. When I started there were 10 or more providers in a 6 block square area. As of this spring, when my neighbor closed her doors, I am the only one left.

Good for me, bad for parents looking for care.

Full for awhile now.

I live in Arizona.

It seems like the other providers in my area are struggling to get clients. I feel lucky to have such great families who stick with me, even during their life-changing events (moving, babies, different jobs).

1) Are you full (Yes or No) Yes Just got full this summer, I have been low enrollment, 1/3 capacity, since Nov of 2008 when the bottom fell out. I am losing 5 to Kindy come Sept so hopefully calls will start for those openings.

2) What area of the US/Canada or what state do you live in? Oakland County, MI (home to the Big 3)

Curious of why this wouldn't be legal. You can set your price to however you want.

this is why I'm not licensed (well you don't have to be in ontario) because its not going to make sense any more for you when all the kids start going to school everyday at the age of 3/4. and mat leave is only 1 yr. I think they need to adjust this.

Not full far from it, only 1 part time child now since I termed the other 2.
There is also a huge drastic change happening with state assisted families which will hurt everyone in my area soon.

It is illegal to watch any unrelated children without being licensed in MI. By SAHM I believe she meant unlicensed.

I'm not licensed either but to be legally unlicensed I can still only take 1 under 2. Most unlicensed providers seem to break this rule here & while I understand why they do it's just not something I feel comfortable with. I can take 3 infants under 2 or 6 children with 1 under 2 & 1 aged 5+. With 2 children of my own it makes it hard to make $ for sure!

I think a LOT depends upon rural or metro or how close you are to a larger city. The closest city to me is only 8,000 and it is 15 miles away. There are a couple of small towns closer.
