daycarediva 04:58 AM 08-17-2012
I am considering eliminating it. I have one before and after school kid who is staying with me in fall, and will need breakfast before 8. The rest will be eating at 8. I think AM snack at 9:30 and lunch at 11:30 is just too much. AM snack rarely gets eaten. I only have age 2+ kids. I serve PM snack at 3-3:30, so they go 3+ hours in between meals then, it will be the same time frame for breakfast-lunch.

I sometimes do and sometimes don't. It all depends who is here and what we had for breaky. We eat lunch at noon (lately after 12pm) and it all depends what we are doing, some they are more hungry than other times. Does it make a difference, nope.

Most days we don't, but occasionally we will have a light snack depending on what we've done in the morning. We have breakfast at 8 and then have lunch around 11:30 and then a PM snack around 3 or so.

I have one little guy who comes at 7:45 having already snacked on dry cereal at home, and I serve him breakfast at 8:30. At that time, any other kiddos who might be hungry eat a snack, too. After that, we are good until 11:30 when we eat lunch. It works for us!

I don't serve an am snack. We have breakfast around 8am and lunch between 11-noon. I try to have a protein loaded breakfast for them. If we have more carbs they will sometimes complain. I find they usually eat lunch really well. We do have a pm snack.

No AM snack here. Breakfast (called snack to the parents but it's breakfast) around nine and then lunch by 11:45ish.

Ok, I'm working on Septembers menus and newsletter (how exciting on my unexpected morning off). I think I will just take them out and let parents know that if everyone is hungry we will eat, it just won't be a planned everyday occurance.

No am snack here. Back when I provided it, the kids were not eating their lunch. Since there is more nutrition in lunch then snack (ie more food groups), I eliminated the morning snack. Now most everyone has a good appetite for lunch. It is a fairly large break between breakfast and lunch, though (8 am to 11:30 am). It's funny because afternoon snack is served after nap (at around 3 pm), and you would be surprised at how little they are interested in it!

Years ago I switched to breakfast because it paid more on the food program. Though it is a late one.. 8:30 we do have crackers about 10:30 as I start to think about lunch.

I do breakfast (but only claim snack) at 8:30-9:00, lunch at 12:00-12:30, and PM snack (claimed as dinner) at 3:30-3:45. This maximizes food program @$5.32 per day for the higher Tier (which our school district is).

I don't do the AM snack. Breakfast at 8:30, lunch 11:30, pm snack at 2:30-3:00 sometime depending on when everyone is up from nap. The kids seem fine. I have two early arrivals meaning at 7am, so if they seem REALLY hungry I will give them a bit a dry cereal, but usually they are fine until breakfast.

So you feed them dinner at 3:30? And then do they eat for their parents again that night?
I do dinner if they are here past 5:30.

Yes...they usually get cheese and crackers and fruit or vegies (2), or yogurt and crackers and fruit/vegie, or a sandwich and the same. Lunch here is almost always a "hot lunch".

Because it's 3:30, and most of them don't get dinner until 6 or later, it doesn't affect their dinner time at home. As a matter of fact, because they get that bit of protein (and whole grain crackers), they seem to be in better shape while mom's cooking.

Even if it did affect dinner at home, it would be ok, since it's a healthy snack.

hhmmm I may have to contemplate that because my afternoon snack is usually just one element away from a complete meal.
I do feed dinner to a couple of my late kidlets though, I have one that doesn't get picked up until 6:30 so he won't be home until 7:15! and he is just one. So, I always make sure he gets fed.

check with your food program. I've heard that some have a rule about not claiming dinner (supper) before a certain time of day. Our food program actually encourages it. They are nice!

I did away with am snack a long time ago and Im so glad that I did. I found that they werent really hungary but it was more like they needed a diversion. I wouold much rather them eat a good lunch. I to find that if they have a protein at breakfast they arent starring at me with that look around 10:00. (brk at 8:00). I think its better to have a small snack around 3:30. I does seem like an awful lot to cram snack in the morning.

We don't have morning snack. Kids can eat a breakfast that they bring until about 9 a.m. and then lunch is at noon and afternoon snack at 3 or 3:30 p.m.

I should add that mine all get some sort of breakfast before they arrive at 7:15-7:45. Two get oatmeal at home every morning, the other usually has dry cereal or a banana on the way, and 10 mo gets a bottle (or sometimes a poptart...ugh).

Breakfast here is usually whole-grain bread with cheese or meat (it's a german thing), or sometimes cereal, scrambled eggs, pancakes, or waffles, and always milk.
