I have a PT 10 month old who just isn't working out. He cries all day and just isn't adjusting as he's only here 2days week and is very used to being held/worn. I told mom he needs either one on one care or change to FT here. It's only his 4th week in care, so past the 2week trial but not by much. Do I ask for 2 weeks pay/notice or just let it go? Also, if you term within trial weeks do you ask for the two week notice/pay?

Thanks!

in situations like this I usually give them 2 weeks notice, if they decide to pull earlier they do not get their deposit (1 wk pay) back/credited.

if it's not working, I wouldn't hold them to a 2 week notice. If they can find somewhere else to go, it's best for everyone.

This is why I don't take any kids under 2 less than 3 days a week. It is too hard on them and me.

I would just be super honest, LO is not adapting and give the opportunity to go full (or at least more full) time or 2 weeks to find new provider.

Good luck

This would be a fair solution

Yes, that is my new rule...under two is FT only! It's too hard on everyone and it's taking up a valuable spot!

They used their deposit for the first week (I know I shouldn't have let them!) but she's an old friend (who's very difficult to work with!). Getting even this weeks pay will likely be difficult so I think I'll need to chalk this up to a good learning experience.

Thanks for the advice!

Do you get paid in advance? I would get payment, THEN give 2 weeks notice that must be paid in advance!

So DCM is not reacting well. I gave two weeks notice yesterday and she's all over the place. First, wanting me to give him more time, then wanting to pull him and not pay, then saying she understands no hard feelings and finally telling me she doesn't understand why my establishment must update her so often as her son is not dying or sick, just needy.

I termed her early, she was all over the place...said that she wasn't NOT following policy, just questioning it. It got paid for this week at least and more importantly, what a relief to be free from an all day cryer and mom who pushes the limit constantly! I just hope she finds something that works for the poor little guy, can't believe she was/is fine knowing he cries 6+hrs/day!
