I continued my AFLAC policy when I stopped working now pay for it on my own each month. Do I claim this as a medical expense, or is this a deduction to be applied somewhere else??

You can only deduct medical insurance premiums on Form 1040, line 29 if you are not eligible to be covered by an employer's health insurance plan.
