I'm not sure if I am justified to be upset here but today I got a phone call from the school nurse that my son was kicked in the eye by mistake and needed to be seen by an eye specialist right away because he had a cornial abrasion. I called my assistant and told her my son needed to go to emergency and asked if she could come watch the children so I could take him. She said she was on her way to the DMV and could come after she was finished. What?? My son needed to go to emergency and you are on the way to DMV?? Our DMV is 10 minutes away, she could have easily turned around and been here. Am I expecting too much because it was my child? If a child was suffering and I was called to help, I would. My mom left work to come help out but she works 45 minutes away. Thats a long time for a 7 year old child to wait in pain. It was quicker than calling parents and having them come get the children.

Not over reacting at all. How is he doing now?

Maybe I'm going to over react too then because I have lived with corneal erosions (started as abrasions) for the past 8 years and they are seriously the worst pain ever! I have not experienced labor pains but how would you like the feeling of a knife twisting on your eyeball?! That's how it feels and I feel that at least once a year so I feel bad that he had to sit there for over an hour! I have to endure it as an adult but cannot ever imagine my child going through that pain! You are utterly and completely justified by me!
If you need to know anything about this, it is a condition that I know WAY too much about. Unfortunately, the emergency room probably won't be able to do much for you and will tell you to seek help by an opthomologist. Every time I went to the ER, I was at their mercy and whether they had an opthomologist on hand so hopefully they will have one. They should be able to give him some numbing drops to help out with the pain.
I'm sorry he is going through this.
However, as an assistant, she's on-call so I'm not sure how mad you can actually get at her. :-( Although, I'd be upset for someone putting the DMV over my child or any other child for that matter.

He is fine now. Thanks for asking. He has a scratch that they said will repair its self in 24 to 48 hours and some swelling from the trauma. He has to wear sun glasses outside for the next two days and goggles when swimming as well. No long term damage predicted.

I forgot to mention that I gave her a loan and that's how she was able to pay for the DMV bill. So, if it wasn't for me she wouldn't be there anyway. I just can't imagine a child suffering all so I can put a stupid car on the road.

You have every reason to be upset. Especially after giving her a loan to pay the DMV to begin with.
