Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Doritos....Food Group!?
mismatchedsocks 06:14 AM 10-10-2011
I remember reading this somewhere and was telling my food rep about it, wondering if anyone remembers seeing this anywhere, or have a link for what state or food program allows doritos as a food group!?

Thanks!

I just looked up the food on MMK, and it is allowed as a grain. I doubt they would want it used a lot, but it counts! I'm in MN.

Oh. And I'm on the Provider's Choice food program.

I will never forget how cheerfully my food program lady announced this at our last training. I nearly fell off of my chair.

ok, now I am confused (which is nothing new...LOL! ) But, I am reading on the page listed as page 21 that corn chips are NOT credible. Listed under fruits/vegetable lists where the box is marked with an "X" in the no column.

Farther down in the bread and grain section list, I do see where it says yes "tortilla chips" are credible (either corn or wheat) BUT farther down on page 31 it says "If made with enriched or whole grain cornmeal." I am not so sure Dorito's are made with enriched or whole grain cornmeal.....which would explain why my food program rep absolutely disagrees that Dorito's are credible.

Here is the label from Dorito's: http://www.fritolay.com/our-snacks/d...ese-chips.html It says whole corn but that is NOT the same as enriched or whole grain cornmeal.

Sure! You've got grain, dairy, vegetables! Whole Corn, Tomato, Cheese, Buttermilk! Whee! Great label, just read it! http://www.fritolay.com/assets/image...cool-ranch.jpg

(Just kidding... please don't get me going on this.)

Sorry BlackCat - I just noticed you posted the label too - mine is for Ranch.

The MSG content alone should be making anyone ditch it.

......but "whole corn" is NOT the same as "whole grain cornmeal" or "enriched cornmeal". I think this is a case of the food program sponsers interpreting things differently.

Kaddidle...just saw your second post...LOL!! I think the first few ingredients for any flavor of Doritos is the same.
