Anyone have any ideas for using old markers?

The kiddos all got new markers in their art/craft supply boxes and now I have a shoebox size container of half-dried markers they used all of last year.

They aren't completely dried up, they definitely do still have some life left in them but thought maybe you ladies might have some cool ideas on what I could do with them.

MMMM interesting to see what others do. I just actually leave them in with the new ones and as we use them up we throw them away.

Loveyoustinkyface's 2nd link is GREAT! I have actually done it- we sorted out the colors; dipped them in baby food jars of water, and let them soak for a few hours (some longer). The ink, even if the marker is "dried up", will leak into the water & now you have liquid watercolors! They work really well, too. One tip though; for some of the markers we had to take out the ink part and soak that in order to get all the color out.

I LOVE both of these ideas! There is never enough time in the day to do all of these awesome things. I have tons of magazines and books sitting around full of great ideas (don't even get me started on pinterest) and I hope someday I will have time to go through them all and take out what I want. My children are young and go to a pediatric dentist so they save all of their parenting and kids magazines for me (free!) instead of throwing them away and now I have too many to count!

Those are super neat ideas!

Love how the author of the home made water colors says she "sent the old markers to live in the farm"

I am definitely going to do the water color thing.....just have to find some glass jars as most the baby food I have had over the years is either homemade or comes in plastic containers now.

I keep the caps to use as manipulatives for sorting by color or using to count, etc. I haven't tried the liquid watercolor part but we are planning to try it in our classroom soon since we will get new markers this week.

I, too, was going to suggest turning the ink into watercolor paint. I love the idea of the jump rope using the caps and middles.
