Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>I Feel Bad In Saying....

I can't wait till my school agers go back to school. They have not been easy on me at all and to be honest, its easier for me to keep daycare kids than for my schoolagers to be home. I feel like a bad mom but I really prefer for them to be in school. I am not saying all the time......just that it is really hard on me to keep the daycare going and tend to my schoolagers. The older kids are way more work than even babies. I don't know what I will do this summer but we may be doing summer school, camps, programs. One is very moody and much smarter than the rest of the kids here. She gets bored easily and gets into a lot of trouble as a result. The other one is special needs and the tantrums and misbehavior have ramped up to an unbelievable level. She is not doing well with all the activity of the holidays and even got kicked out of Sunday School for kicking her teacher I think she does better with her teachers at school that are trained to handle her behavior and provide structure for her that I can't do at home.

This holiday was horrible for us. So glad it is over. We also all got a horrendous stomach bug over the holidays so I was washing so much vomit clothing and bedding. plus we had an ER trip on Christmas day because one of my kids was electrocuted by a string of lights! Now I have another appt. with a burn specialist. We did not do dinner or anything with the family. I am exhausted.

Don't feel so bad, I can't wait til all of my schoolers back to school. They are always bugging me to do this and that and are always hungry. My own kids have been bugging me the most about wanting to go outside and it's 39° here. Umm I don't think so. Its so much easier with just my preschoolers and younger.

LOL....39 degrees HERE would mean "yay! We finally get to go outside!" Current temp is -5F

That's too bad you had such a rough holiday. Hopefully things get better from here.

I feel the exact opposite, though. I absolutely LOVE my own SA's home, and it's a big part of why I love my job-to be home with them when they are not at school. They are just regular kids though, no special needs or anyhing extra special about them (except to me and their dad), so we just have a great time hanging out together.

Other people's SA's??? Oh, he!! no! Never, ever, ever again. Did it for years, and hated it because even 1 of them IS more work than all 8 of my 5 and unders put together. They just get bored and irritated being around little kids for 10 hours, unless they were raised that way.

Don't feel bad!
Right now I'm thinking the same thing. My own dd is not listening and I have to ask her to do things over and over and over, and she's 10! I think part of it is they get bored at home, we don't go anywhere during dc hours so that adds to the boredom.

Don't get me wrong, my dd can be a big help, but sometimes she is more work between talking to her over and over and her nasaying (sp) me in front of the kids and being hungry and wanting me to make something different than the dc kids....*knuckle sandwich*...lol

Hope your week goes better!

Don't feel bad. I have 4 DCKs sleeping on the first floor of the house and upstairs it sounds like elephants stampeding as my 3 are goofing off and playing video games. I think I can actually hear someone riding a skateboard up there now so it's time for another trip up. I have gone up a couple times already but it is so much easier when all 3 of mine are in school or pre k during nap time.

knuckle sandwich just cracked me up!

The only sa child who is making it super difficult is my 12 yo with asd. Being away from structure and routine is BAD BAD BAD for him.

The rest just want to eat randomly, or things the dcks aren't supposed to have in front of them, etc.

For the most part, my 14yo dd is a good help when she feels like it, my 8yo is good friends with my 7yo sa dcb so they buddy up and my 5yo adores my 4.5yo dcg so they buddy up. It hasn't always worked this well in past years, so I do feel your pain cheer!

I am so sorry your Christmas was so awful! I hope everyone is feeling better now!

This is cracking me up!! I love my own SA kids but am really disliking other SA DCKs! One mom I had like 18mos ago before I was licensed left a note on my door seeing if I still do DC because she needs care for her 2 boys 8 & 10! Ugh! Dh is like "we could use the extra $" but I'm like ugh no way! No more SA kids!! I already have 1 and it's not something I want to keep doing! It's $400/mo plus food program so I have to but 2 more?? Heck no!

I actually don't mind SAers when we can get outside or to activities. the winter is hellish here with a hyperactive special needs school ager driving me nuts.
