I have a daycare in my basement, but I am licensed and have an assistant. Anyway, one of my dck is leaving. She brought a toy for another girl. I bought it in my work area. It's a room that's secluded off that has my computer and I relax or my assistant when we have lunch. One at a time, not together. I have a little table in there. I said to the mom "Her gift is in the room that's off the side". My assistant was inside cleaning. I was outside with the kids. The mom didn't know the gift was her's because it wasn't wrapped. However, it was the only child theme item in a sea of paperwork and other adult things. When I told her so, the mom went back in side. My assistant comes out an hour later saying "The mom was confused, because YOU didn't do a good job telling her about the gift". I said "What do you mean?". She said "I didn't see the gift either. A gift is a wrapped item.". I said "It was the only child item in the room". She said "I still didn't know what you were talking about". If you were told what I originally told the mother (and given the room set up), would you know what I was talking about? Was I wrong? I've never heard a gift has to be wrapped. SShe made me feel stupid.

I'd be looking for a wrapped gift/gift bagged gift, too, just because that's what pops into my head when you say the word gift. If you had said there was a toy on the table for her then I wouldn't have thought it was wrapped.

Either way it goes, it isn't a big deal. No reason to feel stupid!

Much ado about nothing! She should have just said "can you show me what you are referring to" if she couldn't find it. What is wrong with people nowadays. Instead of making you feel bad, how about a little gratitude for the gift?
