SO I am not a big shopper, but since the holidays are here I have been out shopping for friends and family.

Between Thursday of last week and yesterday I have seen several of my DCKs...

I am at target and I hear this blood curdling screaming going on and I think why does that sound familiar??? I should have ran out of the store, but instead I run right into DCF and YUP that's one of my DCKs in full tantrum. Happened twice on Friday night. The parents don't do anything and then they start bending my ear about how in the world do you go shopping with kids, why are they doing this, etc etc etc.....

Saturday I am at Macy's and same exact thing happened. Sunday at costco and last night at the grocery store.... WTH

Am I the only one this happens to? I just want to shop people, not get my brain picked on how to shop with kids or have to listen about how hard it is to go shopping when you have young kids....lol I decided I am getting a disguise and wearing it until the new year.....lol

I did put out in my news letter the stress that the holidays bring and how to manage your child during this time, but from the looks of it, no one read it...

I run into daycare families all the time (small town) but I've perfected the wave and keep walking technique.

I don't stop walking and don't stop to chat for the very reasons you mentioned.

Even if the family and child are smiling and happy... I see the kids enough during the week that I don't want to stand around and make small talk during my off hours.

Might sound "unfriendly" but it's how I stay sane and willing to come back to work every Monday morning.

hhahahaa GUess this is something new I have to learn still. 2 of them could have been completely avoided, the others not so much... One of the kids actually was holding on too my leg refusing to let go...lol

disguise is still sounding good right now...lol

I ran into one of my very PT DCG's at Aldi's a few weeks ago. I made the MISTAKE of saying "Hi DCG!"...She then proceeded to yell to me throughout the entire store... "Tami, where are you?" "Why are you buying that?" "I wanna make cookies too!" DCG"Tami's making cookies, can we make cookies?" Mom:"No" DCG "Why!? Thats not fair. Can I go to Tami's then? Tami can i come over?!" Mom: "NO"

SHES SIX!

Never again will I make the mistake of saying hello, and I hope no one ever sees me on accident

I refuse to grocery shop anymore - I make DH do it. The last thing I want is to run into someone while buying Tampons or anything else.

I would have told them what I thought of the situation, for sure.

First, I'd ask "why are you out shopping at naptime, rather than letting her nap?". I have a DCF whose kids are EXHAUSTED every Monday (the one year old sleeps about 6 hours here on Monday). They say that their kids "won't nap" at home. They are NEVER HOME on the weekends. I know that they want to have fun and want the same for the kids, but they are TIRED!

Second, "Why are you still in the store?" Remove that child and take him to the car to calm down. If he doesn't calm down, take him home.

Sometimes, things are so obvious, but parents want to get things done on their schedule. It's not always possible with kids. If my kid freaks out at a store, we go home (he LOVES shopping, though-it might be a good thing to go home for other kids), and I head out later alone.

Happens all the time to me too! I HATE shopping and am in no mood to play parent games when I am out shopping. My go to answer for the "why are they doing this?" is "Because they can." then turn and walk away. People usually don't ask me twice.

I hate it, too. I wake up VERY early Saturday and go to two stores (Walmart/Target and the grocery store) before my bank even opens at 9. I then go to the bank, and any other store that opens later. I am HOME from shopping by 10. The only time I have run into DCF's is when I can't do that and have to go later on. Bonus is it takes me less time because NOBODY is out that early on a Saturday!

I have run into almost all of my current dcf's the last two weeks and several of my former families. I do the walk and wave with my current clients. The former ones who left on good terms I did stop and chat with.

I've been lucky- I haven't ran into DCKs in a little while. Now I'll see them every time I leave the house for the next month.

It seems I never run into them when grabbing milk or something else innocuous. Let me buy alcohol or something I really wouldn't want DCPs to know about and I'll see them every time.

Right - like when I have a bottle of wine and a bottle of Scotch in my cart, and there they are ... I rarely drink, but on the rate occasion I do, I always run into someone. And of course, the hubby and I drink way different things so it looks like I have a problem.

Yes! The alcohol! I ran into one of my mine when I had a case of beer and 4 different bottles in my cart, and little else. We don't drink a lot, but it's on sale so cheap this time of year, so I stock up cause I'm a bargain nut. I saw them glance in my cart, so I just laughed and said, "Can you blame me?"

Once when I was at Target I over heard a mom tell her daughter "if you don't stop it right now I'm going to tell Miss Kathie and she wont be happy!" It was one of my DCM...

That's golden! Too bad it doesn't work the other way around. My dcks couldn't care less if I threaten them with "Would you like me to tell Mommy or Daddy what you did/said?"

lol aint that the truth. I only have one kid that works with and the others couldn't care less.

one time at walmart I hear a couple fighting over which brand of adult "lotions" they were going to buy. I had to turn the corner, didnt have a choice and it was two of my DCP..............Oh boy the look on our faces were prices less I am sure.

My face was red and I had a hard time looking at them in the face at drop off and pick up for a few weeks.

I live in a small town...

Hahaha, best story ever!

Most people say they saw me but don't bother me.
If I do run right into a family it always seems to be ones that were termed. I just wave and keep it moving.
