I have a new dcg starting today and oh my goodness - I was told she has allergies, but wow! Her face is all puffy, eyes are twice the normal size, and she has so.much.snot.
My home daycare is literally in the woods - and we have 1 dog and 2 cats!!! She is so miserable - I don't know what to do. It's not like the dcp didn't know all this.

Does she have actual diagnosed allergies or is this just what mom/dad said?
I guess, I wouldn't accept a child into care in that condition...kwim?

Even if it is all allergies that is too symptomatic to be a daycare. I can speak from personal experience that if she looks like that she feels a hundred times worse.

She takes Claritin each day, and has a steroid cream, but this was not told to me before drop off this morning. She was fine for the first 45 minutes, and then we went outside. Within 5 minutes she was a mess.

I'd be calling someone to come get this child… it's obvious that the meds aren't working and she needs to go to a DR for written diagnoses/better meds

I agree she should go home in that state. It sounds like she's having a full blown allergy attack which means the daily meds probably aren't working like they should.
A daily med should prevent most excessive symptoms most of the time.

I would definitely be calling the parents. If she is this bad after a few minutes outside what is she going to be like at the end of the day.
It doesn't sound like your home is the right place for her.
Did the child come to the interview with the parents?

She did come for the interview - she was fine for over an hour. I think the problem is not the house, but the outdoors. We have a hepa filter and don't allow the pets downstairs in the daycare area. I would definitely be calling the parents. If she is this bad after a few minutes outside what is she going to be like at the end of the day.

Poor girl! Tree pollen has been very high around here, making me miserable! She must feel real bad!

I just sent a child home today for similar reasons. Dcm forgot to give him his meds all weekend. 5 minutes into outside his eyes were narrow slits. Dcd came, Benadryl in hand to dose him before even leaving the house.
I have central air with a HEPA filtration system, I also have cats that are restricted in their interactions with the kids and access to the daycare space. I have to say that if her allergies are THAT unmanageable WITH her meds, I think they need to seek alternate care.

I think you are right - I can't imagine her being this miserable here for half of the year!I just sent a child home today for similar reasons.
