I closed my home day care a few months ago so that we could move and build a new home. We are almost done building so I am now trying to figure out my new hours etc. My home day care will be in a more rural area a little further out so most parents will need to drive 30 to 40 min to work. So I am trying to figure reasonable hours to be fair to the parents and .... that will fit my families needs. Any suggestions on hours???

Also do you allow each family a certain number of hours for each day you're open or do you allow them all hours you're open. For ex if you're open 12 hrs a day do you allow 10 hrs per day per family??

I do contracted care only. So I get their schedule every week and their drop off and pick up time is one hour before their shift and one hour after. I provide care ONLY when they are at work.

I also live very far out and I have one mom who drives one hour east here... Then drives almost an hour back west to get to work... Then drives almost an hour east here after work... Then an hour west back home.

Living in the woods in the middle of nowhere, it's sort of understood that if you accept parents who work farther away or live farther away, you have to accommodate driving time.

I am open 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and the children can be cared for during those hours, but not to exceed 9 hours (this accounts for 8 hours of working and then 30 minutes drive time morning, 30 minutes after work). Anything over 9 hours is an hourly flat rate of $7.

Contracted hours here as well, only between the hours of 7:30am and 5pm. Parents are allowed to have their children here while working only.

I am contracted as well and know their work schedule ahead of time so that I can accomodate them while they are working. I work 9 hours per day with each family but between both families I am open from 7:30 to 5:15 each day. I think almost ten hours is a long enough day!
