I had a parent take her 8 month old into the Dr today. He was diagnosed with Croup. He was put on steriods to help with symptoms. Question is..............how long does he need to stay out of daycare???

I think I have one with croup. My 3 yo has had a slight cough/runny nose for a couple of weeks now, nothing major. Today she fell right to sleep at drop-off and slept for 3 1/2 hrs. I called Mom and asked if she had a rough night. Mom said she's been coughing really hard at night and she's been giving her breathing treatments - 3 last night. I suggested croup and she called her dr and can't get an appt until next Tue. I'm going to ask her to take her to urgent care tonight.

Croup is not always contagious, depending on whether it came from the bacterial or viral strand. I always require a doctors note to return.

My son always gets Croup and most of the time it's with no fever. Usually we do 24 hrs. kids free, to get the first couple of dose's of steroid in him. And that is when I go into a cleaning, de-germing frenzy!!
