I have a some very competitive little boys in my care. Everything is I am bigger, better, have more, am smarter...etc. Frankly, I'm getting tired of it. Something's gotta give!!
I have searched for team building exercises and have found only a couple that are appropriate for 5-7 yo's. Has anyone done these with children? Have they been effective?

Interesting that we don't have tags on team building. I have some that relate to competitive play. I know Spudp12 has had similar issues. https://www.daycare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30216

Maybe you could PM her. Hope something here relates: https://www.daycare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30216

One of the dck's left, so the problem resolved itself .

I have found that when the dck's build something together, it REALLY helps! It should help for that age group too since they are still into building, especially legos. I heard that parachutes are good for team play, but my kids never use it in that way, so it never really helped. You can make almost any game into a "team" game (like hide and go seek, tag). You just match up 2 kids. I actually like to match up 2 kids who need help learning how to play nicely together.

I think nannyde had a great idea on teaming up 2 kids for the entire day if you have a big enough group. I'm pretty sure she had some information on her blog about it.

No it's not, and I just browsed through her blog and she apparently never wrote about it there. Oh well, the general concept was that she matched up 2 kids for the day. I may not have this entirely correct, but I think the idea was to team up the most advanced child with the least advanced so they could help each other out. She would regularly change up the "teams" so everyone learned out to help each other out and they learned to better respect one another. I thought it was a great idea and have incorporated it on and off (not always, but usually when I think the kids need to learn how to play with each other better).
