I am looking at having my contractor start installing an egress window. The cost is between $1200 and $1500.

How many of you have an egress window?

Did you pay to have it installed specifically for daycare? If so, how much?

Did you claim this as an expense on your taxes?

Did it raise the value of your home?

And, what are you using for steps/stairs/ladder to get up to the window and out of the hole? Did your contractor install them? Did they have to meet your state code/dhs requirements? Where did you buy them?

Thanks!!!

I had to put two in prior to starting daycare. I could not get approved without completing the work prior. The larger one in our basement cost us about 1200 and the other one was about 400. It sucked but was necessary for this job. Both the windows that were replaced were new too but just didnt meet the guidelines. Since I live in a split both are low enough they don't need steps/ladders to get to them to get out.

And yes I was able to claim it on taxes but I think it needed to be split over a couple years since the expense was so high (even though it was 100% for daycare).
