I bought this from IKEA ($40):

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10065958

I took the bottom shelf off and it's still extremely sturdy. I use it in the playroom and it seats 4-5 well. 6 might be pushing it. But, then you could just get one of their $10 end tables that match and push it up against it. I use two of their $10 tables in my kitchen for their snack. Works great, they clean up well- the finish on the legs can chip if you're not careful, but tabletop cleans extremely well with absolutely no chipping.

I recently purchased a wood table and 6 chairs from kaplan. Including shipping, the set was less than $200. The tables are on clearance for $50 and then you can buy the butcher block chairs in a two pack for $35. I realize $200 seems like alot, but It is super sturdy and will last forever, saving money in the long run. Here's a link:

(Admin: The link was not showing a table. Hopefully it was this one that I put up)

I purchased this "normal" sized kitchen table (butcher block style) on craigslist for $25 and the outside chairs for $10 each, my husband cut the legs down to childrens height. It works perfect and I didn't have to spend a butt load for it either.

no lol, and if there was you probably wouldn't want to buy it around here lol. Plus there is a bad bedbug infestation going around and I do not want to bring that in!

Ooh that's stinks. I still think you could probablly buy a new table similar to that way cheaper than buying one for kids.

I see your location as Cleveland. I am assuming that is Cleveland Ohio, but maybe not... Sometimes if you check the craigslist ads for the closest big city, you can put in your town and find listings. It also depends on how far you are willing to drive. We live an hour from one major city and about the same distance, perhaps a little further from Mpls-St Paul. We check both sets of CL ads when we're hunting for stuff. Sometimes we even find listings for our area on those other city listings. Hope these help...

I have these chairs, they are very durable and worth the $5 that I paid for them, I have had them for several years. I did have a fiesty 3 yr old bear down with the corner of wood blocks and press and turn till a hole was put in them, but, overall well worth the money and they fold up for storage on the weekend.
