Back to Full Time Day Care

Well I haven't been on here in a while, not enough time in a day...I started working at a Children's Hospital as a secretary three months ago...doing that job 30 hours a week, and my daycare part time the other days...working a total of 66 hours a week..I have 4 days off a month with working both jobs, no more having weekends off since I started the hospital job...Lets just say It is nothing like I thought it was going to be, I am so stressed out most days I want to run out of their crying!!!!There are a few nurses that treat me poorly because I am not as "high" up as them, I don't deserve to be talked down to like I am stupid...I am only making $11.50 an hour, with taxes taken out, it comes out to be about $80 a day for my 10 hour shift, let alone the 40 minute drive their and back home, basically 11.5 hour day...comes out to be about $8.00 an hour...Many of the daycare parents are asking me to go back full time Monday-Friday and I am really considering it now. I can't stand getting up in the morning going to my job...you want to love you job, and I don't....I am just afriad down the road, how hard is it going to be to get back into a job, if i quit this one and do my day care for the next 3-4 years...Will anyone hire me with being out of the workforce for that long?

I am paying $240 a month in gas to get to work....$180 in health insurance...If I get on my boyfriends, it will cost me $50 a month for health insurance that is just as good as the hospitals, just right there that will save me $370 a month. ( we have set our wedding date for September 8, 2012) but to get on his health insurance we are going to go down to the court house but not tell anyone but our parents. He hasn't proposed yet, but have the the downpayment down for the date. I know its a little backwards...lol....

How many of you have gone through this whole changing jobs and wanting to go back to doing your daycare full time? I will be making more money, more time at home with boyfriend, dogs....and whenever we have children, I will be able to spend more time with them and not have to find daycare right away until I would get back into the workforce...I think its just overall the best thing for me right now...I am just afraid of quitting because this is like the top hospital in my state, I know they probably wouldnt hire me back if I put my notice in , honestly I think I have realized though the medical field is not where I want to be anymore...I am not going back for my RN like I had planned because the things these nurses have to do to the children, I could not do...I really think I like the administrative work though, I think down the road I would want to work in an office as someones administrative assistant or secretary, but just not in the medical field...This job is giving me experience I need but will someone hire me down the road if I havent been a secretary for a long period of time???...Ahhhh I am glad I got this out...please someone give me some advice

Sounds like you already have your mind made up!

If doing daycare is what you want to do, I wouldn't worry too much about 4 years down the road and if someone will hire you.

The only advice I have is this: I encourage you to take a few online courses to better educate yourself for a clerical position.

(P.S. I would never let someone disrespect me at a place of employment. Clearly these women think they are "holier than thou". I would bring the issue up to my superior. If nothing is being resolved, I'd end my employment relationship. In this case...the money you'd be saving, the hours, the time, etc, daycare sounds like the win/win situation for you!)

I have thought alot about changing jobs and have even gotten a outside job only to turn it down to continue daycare. It's what I am the happiest doing. I would do what makes you happy.

I can't remember why you left DC. Was it that you didn't like it or was it because you wanted to get into your "chosen" profession? If it was because you didn't like it then you need to get out all the way. Stay at the hospital and work your way up. I think your are stressed because you are only getting 4 days off a month.

BUT if you enjoyed DC then go back to it and do not worry about 4 yers from now. Who knows DC might just be your "chosen" profession and 20 years from now you will still be doing it and loving it!

I got out of daycare 3 months ago because of worrying about needing health insurance and retirement...But since I can get on my boyfriends insurance that one issue resolved...and they already take so much $ out of my paycheck I can't afford for them to take out money to put in my 401K so I am not even building up my retirement anyone...

I did want a change from the daycare, I wanted to get back into the medical field, because I have my medical assisting degree as well as Teaching Degree...After being back in the medical field, I have realized it is not where I see myself for my profession...I think I am going to go back to school for classes that deal with business/clerical work so in the future it would be easier to get my foot into an administrative position or secretarial position in an office setting.

I also think I need to change things up with my day care...change borders, and move things around??? Maybe this will liven my spirit up a little
