I was losing it as a working parent. At work, I worried about my kids all day. At home, I worried about getting in trouble at work for not finishing assignments.

Staying home and providing daycare along with occ part time jobs was my best option.

When I had my son I stayed home the first yr but had to return to the work force. I had a really hard time with this...my heart was with my children. When i had my daughter..my husband and I agreed that we'd be sacrificing but it was our desire to be able to stay home with our children. We made it work but after a couple yrs I thought maybe taking in a child would help me be able to bring income into the home. That was almost 4 yrs ago and I've loved every moment of it!!

I started my own home dc about three years before I even had kids I works in a center for about 4 yrs before that kids have always been my life i had 17 different family's that I care for as an 12-16 yr old people would have to schedule there nights out around when I could watch their kids it was nice I was about to buy my first car with babysitting money. And then as I got older I knew I could never drop mine off for someone else to raise. Mine are now 5 & 9.

Default Other

Other: After the birth of dd#2, I went through 2 providers with her before she was 5 months old. My second provider termed her. She was THAT child (the one everyone posts about, "dcg wont nap.....dcg screams for hours."

I knew that I was the only one who would be able to provide care for her and meet her needs. DD#1 was a breeze, but not #2

I was exhausted with her and she was my own child. I can't imagine anyone else being able to do it. Sometimes the only thing that kept me going was my love for her. I would have termed her too if I was her provider

I think some parents try to force childcare. If you decide to have a baby, be prepared to quit your day job and care for that baby yourself- not all babies can cut it in child care. Mine couldn't.

I voted other. Yes I wanted to be home with my kids but daycare was not a thought right away. I lost my job and of course they were hard to come by so a friend of mine suggested daycare. She was doing it and loved it

I am a mix of I always wanted to do it and I hated my other job

I was in college for ECE and got scared I would be a "bad" teacher and kids would hate me. I had a horrible 4th grade teacher and really think that being a teacher is a job that is too high arisk to be "bad" at. That teacher stuck in my head for too long and I was afraid I would damage children. (haha all of this was my Type A comingout and I really had no reason to think I woul dbe a bad teacher)

I quit anyway and became an accountant. That really was not for me. Some people are able to work in an office some even love it but I was going NUTS!! I hated it.

On Tuesday morning at 10 am I walked out and never looked back

A month later I started the daycare.

I don't know if I want to continue the daycare after I have children, but if I do have too it will be a millions times bette than working away from any future children I have.

Always wanted to be a k5/preschool teacher but also wanted to stay home for my kids when they were little so I thought this was the best thing. My kids are now in school full time and I'm liking it even better!

I voted other. My husband wanted me to stay at home when my first child was born so I agreed. My husband didn't want her daughter to be in daycare at all. I stayed at home mom with my first child and I love it so much. It was so much fun to go out to meet a lot of mothers and their children. My daughter loves to play with others. Until she was 10 months old, we no longer have groups due to most of mothers moved away. I only have one mother that we have been friends ever since. I found it was so boring and I want to keep active so I decided I start babysitting with an infant so my daughter can have playmate. I took him in when he was 6 weeks old. I was doing extra money to have some fun and I can spend money on a lot of toys and cutest brand names clothes for my baby and myself. My husband don't care about what I do with money because he wants me to have some fun.

My second daughter was born and I stayed at home mom again with both of them and it keeps me so busy with an infant an a toddler. They are 20 months old apart. I started babysitting with other child again for a year for saving money for a new house (our first home buying). We bought a brand new house in 2004 so I decided I started to have a daycare of my own because everything are more expensive.

Of course, I miss being stay at home mom and I love to go out some errands. I admit I am jealous of my friend who is staying at home during weekday when their children (ages of 11 and 8 years old) go to school. She went out to have some lunch with their friends and shopping. She wants me to join with her but I can't. She do have a part time job on the weekends only. She and I have been friends when we met groups when our kids were babies. I guess that is life!

It was a no brainer for me! I worked in daycare as an ECE so it was perfect for me to work from home with my DD. I like it a lot better too

I marked 3 boxes. Not sure if that's what you wanted or not but I still did There were so many reasons to do it that marking just one wouldn't make sense and marking other just didn't feel right.

I think I always secretly wanted to do child care and after baby-sitting as a chidl and young-teen then working as a nanny as an older teen and young adult it just felt right. After college I got a "real job" and continued to nanny part-time and babysat on my free time but I loved doing it and hated my "real job" no matter what I was doing. Typing, receptionist work, insurance, retail, apartment managing, waitressing, etc. never felt like more than a job and after a while I got bored.

When I was an apartment manager one of the perks was that I got to work out of my unit and my DD stayed home with me the first year of her life then I went back to work for my parent's pet store I did the paperwork while working from home for the next 6 months. Being at home with my DD for the first year and a half was the greatest thing ever.

When my DH and I started talking about having a baby I really thought that I would miss not being able to stay home with the baby this time around. Then my HD suggested that I start my own FCC and it was like a lightbulb. I thought DUH, why didn't I think about that sooner. And here I am. DH and I waited until I was established in my DC before attempying for a baby and now my DS is 17 months and I LOVE being able to have him "at work" and to take and pick up my DD from school.

I have always worked in childcare, starting as a sitter at age 12. I worked as a nanny and babysitter through college and afterwards.
In between I started a couple of other businesses that did not work out.
I got a "real job" shortly before my first child was born and was laid off. I stayed at home with her for 4 years before I started watching kids in my home and was licensed shortly after her fifth birthday.
I always envied those who had home daycares, but I had to wait to get licensed until I owned a home, and once we did, I had to wait for renovations to be done before I could do it.
