Accident and Injury to a Child While in the Center's Care
GEN (a) The center shall take immediate necessary action to protect
the child from further harm and shall immediately notify the child's parentx
"accidents and injuries "x "parent:notification:accident or injury
to child"(s) verbally when one of the following occurs while the child
is in the center's care:
- A child is bittenx "bites" and the skin is broken;
- A child sustains a head injuryx "injury" \t "See
accidents";
- A child fallsx "falls" \t "See accidents"
from a height greater than the height of the child; or
- An accident or injury requiring professional medical care occurs.
(b) The center shall maintain on file a recordx "children's records:accidents
and injuries" of the incidents specified in (a) above. The incident record
shall include the following:
- The name of the child involved in the incident;
- The date, time and location of the incident;
- A written description of the following:
- i. The incident;
- ii. The injury to the child;
- iii. The names of witnesses to the incident; and
- iv. The follow-up action taken by the center, including:
- (1) Application of first aidx "first aid:record of injury";
and
- (2) Consultation or treatment by a licensed physicianx "physician:treatment
of injury" or other health care provider, if applicable.
(c) Accidents, bites and injuries other than those specified in (a)above shall
be reported to the child's parent by the end of the day.
(d) Upon request of the child's parent, the center shall provide a written
description of the incident by the end of the next operating day.
