for DayCare Centers
Section 418.16
Training
(a) Each person responsible for developing, directing and supervising the daily
activity programs for children must participate in training during the center's
first year of licensure and every two years thereafter. Such training must address
the following topics:
- (1) principles of early childhood development;
- (2) safety and security procedures;
- (3) child abuse and maltreatment identification and prevention; and
- (4) statutes and regulations pertaining to child day care and child abuse
and maltreatment.
(b) The day care center must provide 15 hours of in-service training during each
license period to assist the day care center staff in carrying out their responsibilities.
This must include, but is not limited to, appropriate supervision and training
to aid staff in meeting the needs of those children admitted to the center who
have special mental and/or physical conditions or handicaps and training in the
following areas:
- (1) appropriate supervision of children;
- (2) meeting the needs of children admitted to the center with special mental
and/or physical conditions or handicaps;
- (3) age appropriate child development activities;
- (4) behavior management and discipline;
- (5) health, safety, nutrition and first aid;
- (6) communication between parents and staff; and
- (7) child abuse and maltreatment prevention.
(c)
- (1) At the time of admission to the day care center the director must provide
to the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the center the following
two booklets provided by the department: "Who Cares For Your Children?
A Parent's Guide to Day Care'' and "Say No! -- Protecting Children Against
Sexual Abuse."
- (2) If either booklet is not available, a substitute approved by the department
may be used.
- (3) If appropriate, Spanish versions of the booklets must be provided to
the parents or guardians.
