CARE OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

(1) In addition to the preceding standards, if children with

disabilities are cared for in the center, the following

requirements must be met:

        (A) When children with disabilities are enrolled,

all reasonable and appropriate efforts must be made to

provide those children equal opportunity to participate in the

same program activities as their peers.

        (B) Adaptations to the environment must be

directed toward normalizing the lifestyle of the child with a

disability by helping him/her become independent and

develop self-help skills.

        (C) Efforts to provide specialized service (e.g.,

speech/hearing therapy, physical therapy, psychological

evaluation, or services for mentally retarded) either directly

or by referral, must be conducted only with written

permission by the parent/guardian and documented in the

child's record. Any information exchange regarding these

services must also be documented.

        (D) The center must have a written individualized

evacuation plan, which has been approved by the licensing

counselor and is practiced in every monthly fire drill, for

every child with a disability enrolled who requires more

assistance to evacuate the facility than other children of the

same age or in the same group.
