Our daycare is "adopting a grandparent" so to speak. We have a local convalescent home that's pretty poorly run and the residents are very neglected (I know, I used to work there.) And I decided that our daycare would kind of adopt a resident and do stuff like take them out places once in a while or send them cards/homemade gifts...I've read that bringing small children and elderly people together for short periods of time is great for both parties. My only concern is I'm worried the parents might think "oh gosh, should my kid be around this person? Are they sick?" Those kinds of things...Of course I would never bring anyone contagious around a child, and I would never take a child into the nursing home simply because there are so many germs there, but having a perfectly healthy 75 year old woman/man who loves kids and is hundreds of miles away from their grandkids or something over for lunch isn't going to hurt anything. Has anyone tried this and if so is there any advice you have?
