I said something like this (except it was cookies) to a family that termed themselves to which the parent replied, "I just don't know where she gets that from!" I'd seen the child eat cookies in a variety of settings and she was an overweight child at that.
Before it got to that point, though, the Dad looked me in the eye and said, "She doesn't want to come here because of what you serve."

Mom2Five+ I have a child like that also. Mom only gives him chicken nuggets, fries, pizza, and fruit because she says that all he will eat and she can't afford to waste money. Here I offer him healthy foods and he will stuff his mouth to full capacity and hold it hoping that I will tell him he can spit it out. I don't and we sit at the table together until he chews it and swallows it. Then he says he is done. As soon as his Mom walks through the door he runs up to her (he is 3) and says "I'm so hungry" at first she would look at me and asked if he had lunch and what it was. After about three times of her doing this I finally said to the both of them "You want some vegetables?" of course he said "no" and I said "you aren't hungry then" He has learned that if he says this she will stop at McDonald's and get him some chicken nuggets to satisfy him until he gets home to eat his chicken nuggets and fries. This is the same DCM that is always trying to get out of paying on her regular day because she forgot her checkbook and then she asks me everyday if her check cleared because the bank has made another mistake on her account. She asked if she could bring his lunch and I agreed but it never happened because she can't afford to feed him all day and pay daycare. It still amazes me what these parents say.

Crystal I'd fix the problem by changing lunch time to 12:30 and let her know that you will no longer be serving her children lunch. Easy Peasy

littlemommy What really annoys me is that she picks them up at 12:15...and goes home and makes herself lunch. She has complained that when she sits down to eat her mac n cheese, the kids Hover around her and drink her and drink her soda.

countrymom I have one here too. I just don't understand processed food. Really how hard is it to cook a healthy meal.

blandino Yuck.

Well, she sounds like a very ignorant parent to me. The PB&J (and all the processed foods) is just awful. Also, the fact that she thinks battery operated toys teach, is a JOKE. Most parents want to limit the battery opperated toys their kids play with. I feel for you here.

Honestly, you are going to have to approach her with a "if you don't like it, there is the door" approach. Parents like her will walk all over you.

MarinaVanessa Ugh processed food.

Just tell tell her that you can't serve that at DC due to food program regulations. I used that a lot back when I started growing my backbone.

Thank you Daycare.com forum.

littlemommy She's told me what they eat at home...chicken nuggets, fries, corn dogs, fast food..so I'm worried about suggesting she bring lunch. It would be junk food.

I'm mainly annoyed at the fact that she has tried to control everything about my business. Today, while she sat here talking for 35 minutes, she picked through the toys and named all the ones she doesn't like. I don't have enough toys that "teach" kids, aka take batteries. She there a fit once when she saw a sippy cup in another child bag, bc in my contract i have "no food or drink from home." That child had a long commute, and the cup stays in her bag.

Only a few more months...i just need to grow a backbone

MarinaVanessa "Hi Sally, yesterday you caught me a little off guard with your comment about the biscuits so I wanted to mention it now. I feed the kids a well-balanced meal and I simple cannot feed them the same things everyday nor can I prepare them a second meal simply because they choose not to eat what I serve. It's simply not how I run my business. I follow the food program guidelines so all I can do is offer them the food and the kids choose whether or not to eat it. And I can't force them to eat of course. If you're concerned that he's not eating what I'm serving here at daycare feel free to prepare and pack his meals for him. Thanks for discussing this with me. Have a great day!"

youretooloud I will admit, I feed the kids pretty standard kid fare.

But, I don't do a second choice meal. One meal, eat it or don't eat it.. my job is only to serve it.

I also have at least four things on the plate. So, if out of four things, they can't find something they like, it's not my problem at all.

Also, if they go home AT LUNCH-ish time, they will certainly live. Mom can make a second choice meal.

littlemommy At pickup, dcb tells dcm that he's hungry. She looks at me and asks if they've eaten. I was honest, and said yes, but they didn't eat much. She asks what they had, and when i told her she said that they've never had biscuits and gravy before, but when they don't eat i need to give them pb n j sandwiches, because they always eat those. I failed, and didn't stand up for myself. They go home at 12:15, so it's not like they starve all day.

When i started this family, dcm got upset that the state doesn't pay for diapers during daycare. all about the freebies
