Question From One Of My DCP About Saturday Care

(No, I'm not going to be the one providing the Saturday care. She's just asking my advise. She knows I don't do Saturdays.)

DCM texted me and said that she has to work an upcoming Saturday and her Guard hubby will be on drills that weekend. She's hiring someone to watch her two daughters, ages 4 and 8. I don't know who will be watching them - in terms of her age, I mean. (Would the age make a difference on how much you would pay them, in your opinion?) Anyway, her question to me was what did I think she should pay this person. I also don't know how many hours. Let's assume it's a full workday, so about 9 hours. What would you tell her to offer the person?

I know around me the babysitting rate is $7-$10 an hour. Most of the people that I know that babysit on weekends charge the $10 and are college age and older. HS kids usually charge under the $10. I know it sounds like a lot, but it is weekend care and most of the people who do it are thinking of the extra money.

She had better ask what they charge.. most teens have a rate they charge NOT take the job and accept the pay.

around here they get paid per child $5 per hour per child so 9 hours will be $90

hire and adult and it may be higher. a grandma in the neighborhood maybe $45 for the day.

My 14 year old would make at least $75 for that job. She regularly makes $30-$40 for 3-4 hours in the evening.

I agree with this! How did she hire someone without asking their rate? Most of these babysitters have a rate unless this is a family member or friend that doesn't normally babysit. In that case I would say $7-$10 per hour.

10+ an hour.

Def $8-$10/hr

My daughter gets $10/hr or part of an hour for babysitting on the weekends, with one child. Each child is $2/more an hour. After 11 it's $20/hr (she can't stay up late!) It's pretty standard around here and she goes over rates when she gets a phone call from a new family. (like mother like daughter!!! LOL!)

Around here, babysitters charge $5/hour. Most babysitters will charge $8/hour for two kids here

Thanks ladies. I don't think she hired a person yet. I'll suggest $10 an hour.
