Curriculum
Someone choose a preschool curriculum for me. Secular, not too expensive, I don't know if there's anything else I care about, but making my own just.isn't.working. I don't have the time necessary to arrange it. And I'm desperate for some activities for these children before they drive me positively INSANE.
|
I have a COMPLETE curriculum on a CD. I have it for both toddler's and preschoolers and it is separated into months with each month pretty much laid out for you for EVERY area.
It also includes, bonus activities and clip art sheets such as letter flashcards etc.... Trust me, it is ALOT of stuff. The curriculum company has closed up shop and is no longer in business and the dates on everything is from 2008-9 but it is re-usable every year. Each month (and age group) is offered in 3 different but COMPLETE series. If you are at all interested and computer savvy....maybe you could figure out how I would e-mail you all the files on the CD's....... :ouch: (I have NO clue) Everything needs to be printed off....but I kind of liked that option because I only had to print as many or as few as I needed. Let me know... :) |

MGT is expensive.... (yes I'm whining, lol). I'll consider it.
BC, that sounds interesting. I bet you could email it by attaching the entire folder? maybe? Or burn them to new discs and send them to me :) |
It's still time consuming. But, Kidsoup and CCvillage have them online. They are inexpensive, but you still have to print things, or gather materials.
http://www.childcarelounge.com/curri...e-programs.php <--compares curriculum. I used High Reach for one year. It's very expensive, but it was good. HOWEVER, it's not open ended. It's a cut and paste worksheet, and then the book it comes with tells you what you need to buy. I kept each unit, to revisit, but I can't say I thought it was that great, or fun. I don't feel like the kids were interested in the units. |

Dropbox is another free file sharing program. Easy too!

Blackcat - if you figure it out, is that something you could share with others, too? :) I'm not needing anything yet (as I don't have any kids) but maybe for in the future?

No Curriculum Here!
Sorry, we are unschoolers so I can't recommend a curriculum. Our home childcare is set up as a free play environment. We do not use curriculum of any kind. Our kids stay active & busy and engaged the whole day!
When the kids feel like it, they have dance parties, art, science and so on. It's very much child-led learning plus life learning all rolled together We do have some structure with the routine with regular meal times and rest periods. I always read stories before nap, for example, as part of the routine, and children use the bathroom for pottying and hand washing when they arrive, before and after meals and when coming in from outside, for example. Through the day we have spontaneous storytelling and group time. I USED to use curriculum many, many years ago. I MUCH prefer his way. It's so much more freeing, less stressful and time consuming (for me at least) and I really believe the children are much happier not having worksheets and 'work' to do. It's all just play. We use a learning-through-play approach, so there IS learning, it's just wrapped up in more hands-on activities. I realize it isn't for everyone, and we advertise exactly what we are *and aren't* so parents have no illusions that we are a typical preschool or commercial-style daycare. We Do stay FULL! Our turnover is super low, and I haven't had an empty spot that wasn't filled within a couple of days for almost two years. This works really well for us and I feel like many people would really like the no-curriculum model if they tried it! I think when you go to school and trainings to become an ECE teacher or provider you are bombarded with the practice of using a curriculum, so for those of us with more conventional backgrounds it's a very radical concept to NOT use a curriculum or embrace the idea, but I think it is MUCH more natural for the learning process with the age group I serve. I will say in the past we used the Kindness Curriculum as a standard for our character development, but it is by no means a comprehensive program like the one you are asking about. I do recommend it for any childcare or preschool, as a supplement though! |

If you don't mind, I would love the files as well. I was just starting to put together something for the Fall. Thanks so much!

I would love to have the link also, if possible. :)

BCat I private messaged you.... I too am very interested in this and for all the same reasons as Silver. I am still doing it but just having more input, ideas etc....would be a great help. My kiddo's are little but crave more- and so do I.
I can private you my snail mail info and trust that you would keep that information to yourself. I would be willing to pay shipping cost etc.. I just can't afford the $63 a month for my small class either, maybe someday I will be able to do that. I also like to pick and choose myself what I want to do, so have been putting together my own- but I am exhausted. |

Hang tight peeps!
Apparently there is some technical difficulties.....I'm trying to work them out. Well, MarinaVanessa is :ouch: ;) For some reason, some people can't open the link. Not sure if a Google acct is required or not  I'll send the link to everyone as soon the kinks are ironed out. :) |
If you need any additional help setting things up I could help, I'm pretty tech savvy. Also, I would be interested to see this curriculum, I have a gmail account if that is necessary.

I bought the Buttercups kit from Funshine Express for March-April. It is geared towards toddlers up to 36 months. They also have a 3-5 year old kit. I do my own lesson plans, but hated planning the arts and crafts and such. This 2 month kit costs about $88 for 6 kids. The older kids one is more expensive. There is a calculator on the site to see how much it will cost, and shipping is extra. I liked it and will probably continue using it, because I can make it last longer than 2 months since I only use it as a supplement to my own lesson plan. The "art" is mostly crafts where the kids can paint the pieces and you help them assemble it with glue or tape to make the finished piece. It has full color printed pages on cardstock that are for various activities, like flashcards, color recognition, puzzle games. Comes with a couple board books. It has a teacher book with a large calendar that lays out activities for every day, and the activities are described week by week in the rest of the book.
|
I can just imagine what BC's message box looks like right now .

Thanks Blackcat for the link!! I have a question....let me preface this with that I am at times computer challenged :). I set up a google accout and am now able to see the 7 different folders. However when I click on them nothing happens. Do you know (or anyone else know) what I am doing wrong or if there is another step? Thanks!!
|
I was inspired to share some of my toddler lesson plans because I am grateful blackcat shared these resources with us. I posted it in the Curriculum board, but will copy/paste it here too (also the end gives directions how to download google drive files):
I wanted to share some lesson plans I've made that are geared for 2 year olds mostly - some are from when I worked at a center, and some are from my home daycare (some newer ones borrow directly from the old ones). There are lots of ideas there and it describes what developmental skills are being learned with each activity. However, it doesn't go into detail about what each activity is - it'll just have the name of the activity, such as "paper plate lady bugs", so you have to use your imagination on what that craft would entail. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwXUaJazwk8-OWpNdDV5Z3ZyUm8&usp=sharing You must be logged into a gmail account before clicking the link. Once the page opens, click "Open in Drive" in the upper left. Then select all files with the checkboxes, then click the drop-down menu "More" on the top, and click "download". Hope this works! |
Could I ask for this link too? My creativity seems to have gone out the back door. Thank you so much!

Me too :o Pretty please :)

I, too, would love a link to this, if still available. I make my own monthly calendar, and then weekly lesson plans, and it drives me crazy! It is so time consuming. Any help would be so appreciated.

Curriculum
I want to know if anyone use Preschool Palace curriculum if so could you please share with me. I can not get in touch with the person that's over the site to purchase new material please share if you can. I am trying to build my own curriculum ideas. I like to have a variety. Thank you in advanced.
|
You might want to try The Learning Box. Is not that expensive and it brings all you need. I was feeling the same way, not sure how to put together my own curriculum because of time issues. I had use Funshine before and Mother Goose was out of the ? because of it being to $$$ So I decided to search and search and found The Learning Box, I order the 3 day curriculum, then basically the other 3 days are for trips or free play. It's working out really good and I can see that the kids are learning from it. You can buy per month or couple of month at a time.
|
black cat could you please send me the link if still available. Thanks!
|
BlackCat could I also have a link?
It would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you! |
For those looking for preschool curriculum that's already pre planned I have several of preschool palace curriculum. I saved a lot of them from when it was free and have enough of both cycles to complete at least a year. The only difference between the free ones and the paid one is that some of the activities are different but there is still lots of ideas that are usuable. They have circle time activities, art, craft, and tons of other activities. They also have poems and songs as well as come with the templates for the crafts.
If anyone is interested please PM me with your email. Please give me until Friday. I have class tonight and will try to get some out tonight but by tomorrow for sure :-) |
Bc can you link me to the files as well? I quit MGT and doing my own is way too time consuming.
|
Hi Blackcat. Am I too late? I'd love the curriculum link as well if it's not too difficult. :)
|
Oh blackcat, I would love the link! I will trade you my dog who is barking at the neighbor kids out playing, he thinks he is a kid and feels left out lol.
|
Too late?
Blackcat, am I too late to jump on the curriculum bandwagon? I would love the link if it's still possible. Thank you!
|
