Suspected Ear Infection

What would your reply be to a parent who texts saying they are taking their child to the doctor for a suspectied ear infection this morning, and that whe will 'keep me updated'. This little one stayed home yesterday with a fever and congestion. Mom is off today, so keeping her home wouldn't be a hardship for her. Would you reply asking for symptoms? Exclude since she is obviously sick enough to go to the doctor?

I don't know why I am second guessing myself with sick kids lately...

If the child was home yesterday because of fever, they should be excluded from care today because it has not been 24 hours of being fever free. That is what I would text back to the parent. And child is clearly still not feeling well if she is now taking child to the doctor.

I've had parents text me that at end of a similar text. Mostly I think they do it so I know what's going on and how sick kid is.

Depending on your policys for drop off I would just respond.
"I'm sorry to hear that child is not feeling well today, hopefully they are better soon and can join us again on ......insert day..... if they have been illness free for .... insert hours....thank you for keeping me informed if what's going on"

She did tect back later tellimg me the doctor said hte child was fine and asking if she could drop off. My own daughter, who is my assistant, went back to bed today with a fever. So I reminded the mom of my 24-hour policy.

Thanks for reminding me I do indeed have a backbone!
