Nap Length For 8-9month Old

How do your 8 - 9 month old babies typically nap each day?

I have one that rarely ever sleeps. Maybe 1/2 hour to 1hour each day if Im lucky, that's it!
Parents think this is normal, but most of my babies nap in the am and pm usually a hour at least for each!

HELP!!!!

I have one who is 10 months and swear the child has slept a full hour here once since enrollment (at 6 weeks). Rarely does this child sleep.

I have another who is 9 months and they sleep two times a day for about 1-2.5 hours per nap.

BOTH babies are very happy!

I guess when they say every child is unique, they weren't kidding.

Sorry if that isn't much help.

Is he/she in good spirits or obviously tired? What time is DCK getting up or to bed? I've had little ones that don't take "morning" naps til nearly lunch and afternoon is more early evenings because they get up so late. Maybe adjust the time of nap?

Wish I had more ideas! Some kids are not big sleepers :(

How does the child sleep at home? My own DD transitioned to one nap (usually 45mins to 1 hour, 1.5 hours if I was lucky) at 10 months, but she sleeps 13-14 hours at night happyface

When current DCG was that age she needed two 2.5 hour naps a day (at 17mo she still will take them if I let her) but I now also have a 6 week old DCG that barely sleeps, I'm amazed how much this kid is awake (and happy!) so I'm figuring she's not gonna be much of a sleeper down the line

My own baby is 8.5 months. He wakes up between 7 and 7:30, naps around 10am for 1.5 hours, then naps again between 3 and 4pm for about 1.5 hours. He goes to bed at 8:30. Every once in awhile he'll take an extra long morning nap and skip his afternoon nap. I hate those days because he's super cranky.

I've had babies here before that took 20 minute "catnaps" (that's actually a HUGE red flag for me these days - if an infant parent says the word "catnap" in an interview, I don't take them!). I've also had them sleep as much as two three hour naps per day. It really does depend on the baby, their home routine (or lack thereof), your routine, etc.

OP are you letting them get TOO TIRED before nap time?? I made that mistake with one child and had to revamp her nap schedule... Now she's 15 months and still needs those two naps... Se takes a long morning nap... And e afternoon nap is about an hour and a half

We have an 11 month old and a 10 month old.

When they were 8/9 months old, we laid them down at 9:00 and woke them up around 10:20. So I would say they actually slept just over an hour. And then again in the afternoon, laid them down about 1:15 and they normally woke up around 3:00/3:30.

Now that they are a little older, we are making that first nap later and shorter, so now it's from 9:30-10:30. Afternoon nap stays the same.

My son is 9 months old and naps around 8 AM for 45 minutes and naps again around 1 PM for 1.5-2 hours. He gets 11 hours of sleep at night (7 PM-6 AM) and is happy and well-rested all day!

My son is 9 months old-(well 10 today!) and he usually only takes 2 one hour naps. He is the happiest baby ever!

The 8-9 month babies in my class all take 2 naps still. Some babies sleep for just a 1/2 hour or so, and some sleep much longer. None only sleep once though.

My 10 mo old dcg usually sleeps 1.5 -2 hrs in the am and then again for about the same in the afternoon. Sometimes longer, rarely shorter. BUT this baby does not sleep through the night yet and wakes up 1-3 times still with 3times being rare but 1-2 times is pretty typical and she gets up early like 6ish

1 hour morning nap and a 2 hour afternoon nap is a good place to start. Establishing a good diet will ensure a good nap.

Kids age newborn through 18 months take a 1 hour nap in the morning and all kids nap 2.5 hours in the afternoon.

Kids under 1 should be getting anywhere from 12-15 hours of sleep per day.

My 8mo old DCG sleeps in the morning for 30 mins to an hour in the morning.
She then sleeps 2-2.5 hours in the afternoon from 12-12:30 to 2:00-3:00.

What's the sleeping environment like? Do you use white noise? I have a HUGE fan that I use - parents call it my "magic fan". It's big, so it emits a low pitched, rather loud humming. I swear by it.

MamaBearCanada 05-21-2013 05:14 AM

At that age my kids slept about an hour in the morning around 9.30/10 and 2 hours in the afternoon around 2pm. At about 11/12 months they switched to one afternoon nap around 1pm for 2-2.5hrs.
