Whether I adjust my routine or not depends on how bad my child
feels. When DS's had chicken pox they were wide open and playing so my Mom came and hung out with them during daycare hours. (DH was out of State or he would have) Parents were notified, all came.
When my kids feel really bad and want their Mom (croup, tonsilectomy, flu etc), I try to have my Mom or DH take over the daycare. I do not feel it is my responsibility, but if one is available it would be inconsiderate to not ask since I expect payment regardless.
I have never had to close for personal/family illness so far. I have a pretty great support network. If that day comes, the parents will have to ask their family for backup.
