I had 2 pet rats in college. They were very affectionate towards me for for a while. As they got older, they developed a crazy bond for each other and didn't like me as much anymore. They also got super smart. They learned how to unlatch their cage at night and I found out that they were running all around my house and getting into my snacks and then returning to their cage and relatching it in the morning! I had to get rid of them after that because I didn't want to be part of a rat uprising
