My first question when reading the post was why did the client sign on then? Surely she knew your PTO and vacation policies prior to enrolling her child.

hate upsetting people. I really do. But I try to remember and tell myself that I will
never make everyone happy. It is impossible. So I do the best I can for myself, my family and my clients. It is helpful to remember that when someone says something like what your client did.
