We just went through this with my daughter (2.5yrs) over Christmas break. The first 3 days were rough but it's been fine since then. The key was finding a comfort/transition item to replace the soother. It will probably need to be something she chooses/wants. For my daughter it was a little soft doll. We told her that her Soothers went to a baby girl that needed them.
