We started out as a summer camp with the acronym "GEKOS" (stood for getting every kid out for summer) So of course, we got Geckos. We still have them 13+ years later! The kids love seeing them, holding them, and watching them eat bugs :P
We have had fish, hermit crabs, rats, and a chinchilla that were all specifically class pets. I also have a dog (He is a service dog though, so not around the kids a ton) and two cats.

Rats make AMAZING pets, and are super kid friendly! We actually bred rats for several years until my allergies got so bad we had to stop
