op- if it's in your contract that you close when schools close, I would close (not early, just close) and leave it at that. It always goes back to contract.
This is my policy as well. The year I opened we had the Valentines Day storm. I had one dck come in, start vomiting and no one could come get her. That was my ah-ha moment. It's not enough for them to get to me, they have to be able to pick up on time as well
