I fully understand what you are saying.
I have had to change my thinking on this topic due to a difficult realization. I learned it is not better for children to be forced onto adults who don't want to be with them.
You may one day be the only adult this child can depend on. The 12 hours they spend with you saves them from 12 hours of being degraded, ignored or worse...
Just another perspective to think on...
