By policies I assume your talking contract and parent handbook stuff! This was really hard for me at first but I talked to a few providers I knew and looked at some sample ones online, it took me about a week to get mine together and complete. Of course in the process of providing care I have learned things that have been added or tweaked!

http://www.thedaycarelady.com/form.htm has contract and parent handbook forms, I used them more as a template and resource to make my own.

Before I made my contract/parent handbook I had to seriously determine what hours I was going to be open, what holidays were closed (and paid/unpaid), what ages I wanted to accept and so on.

One of the biggest mistakes i made at first, and quickly changed, was selling myself short. Don't feel bad taking paid (or unpaid) holidays and setting aside days for you to take time off for vacation or whatever. If parents don't like it they can move on, although I personally have never had a parent decided not to use my services over paid holidays. Plus you need a break now and again!
