Even with the diapers with a strip that changes color, you would still need to take off the child's pants and look at the strip to learn it was wet. Unless you have some kind of alarm, you can never change every diaper immediately. I think it is unfathomable for anyone to expect a caregiver (much less a caregiver of 4-8 infants) to change a diaper immediately when it is a little bit wet.

I don't use disposable diapers, but unless a cloth diaper is holding a decent amount of pee, it's hard to tell it's wet without taking it off the child and looking at it (even then sometimes it's hard if you are using a diaper with a stay dry liner).
