Default Anyone try Scholastic "My Big World"?

I am not really a preschool, sit-down, teacher-led activities type person. I'm all about play-based learning and lots of reading, conversations, and teachable moments.

I thought this might be a nice supplement, though.

It cost me $49 for 8 months of readers for 10 children (I only need 5, but it ended up cheaper and I get the teacher supplement). There are two for each month, so nothing too heavy-duty.

My plan is to enhance them with a few related projects, changing out toys, sensory table, books to go with the "theme" (I do this already but it's really random), and finding other little ways to enhance the learning.

What do you think? My kiddos are all 2's, so I won't expect too much from the little worksheet type stuff on the back. I figure some will want to do that, and some will want to scribble. I'm ok with either.

I used to get it and got it free last year when I refused it. It's ok. It is something that you can use along side what you already do.

they are colorful and printed on nice quality paper. the parents seem to not care about them, but some of the kids just love them...

i say give it a go and if you may find it works for you. I didn't pre-plan with them so I often didn't use them. Like in fall we were doing dinosaurs and scholastic was doing leaves.

I did it for a year but it was too "schooly" for my philosophy on childcare. I only had a couple of kids that it was really age appropriate so I didn't feel that it was a good fit.

Oh my gosh! I love it. The kids love it. There is a big book poster size version for you to use. They make beautiful posters too. They cover so much in regard to science type things like seasons/animals/weather/insects and social type things like friends, family etc. MBW is on heavy paper the other Pre-k Scholastic has is not. It stands up to a lot of use.

MBW is twice a month, the other weekly. My parents pay for it as part of the enrollment fee each year. There is so much language/literacy exposure using this.

I adore it!
