Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>The Positive Thread - What Happened That was GOOD Today?

Little Miss Shriek, Tantrum, and Bite everyone isn't here today. Her last day was Friday. Her brother went with her, and I really thought I was going to miss those kids (even with their issues). I feel like I am ON VACATION! What an easy, nice day. NO ONE has hit, bitten, screamed or scratched. No one has complained, and no one has argued.

My husband and my subs had all complained about the brother (he IS an instigator) being the cause of the awful vibe in the daycare. I did recognize it, as well, but had NO IDEA how bad it was because I'd been living it for 3 years. All of my kids are happy that these two are gone (my son is a little sad, but he has said that the boy was mean and naughty today when they've talked amongst themselves about him being gone). One of my other 4's told me that he didn't like the one that left, either (I thought he did). I suppose that now he's gone, they feel safe saying that they didn't care for him so much, anyway.

Here's to a new beginning. I feel SO GOOD about my job again now that I'm not a referee all day!

Leigh, that's awesome!!

I have one DCB (2) here for the next two weeks. My work day is over by 3:45, and today he napped for 3 hours!
(We had an amazing morning of playing and walks and even a short car ride (mom approved) so I feel 0 guilt)

And, I got the new baby girl FULL TIME!! We met on Thursday before I left for the weekend and my 2 yo DCB was in full jealous mode I was just not sure they'd sign. But she's adorable! I rarely take infants but I like to now and then because it's usually 5 years of care. PTL!!

That is awesome! I love having just one or two kids, too-there's so much fun stuff we can do, and it is fun for ME to have that freedom, too! I always say I'm done with infants, but then I get the itch to care for one again, and lately, infant calls are insane. I have had 15 calls for infants in the last 3 weeks (and I can't take them now because I already have my 4 kids under 2 years old).

I always go back and forth. One on hand I love the freedom of the 2+ crowd. But then I remember how quickly the baby stage seems to pass (though it doesn't seem like it in the moment ) and the steady 4+ years of income that accompany said baby makes it hard to say no.

My almost 5yo dcg that is a challenge, and of course, full time and never takes a sick day or vacation day-ever, is napping.

*hugggeee sigh*

Her parents will be annoyed, but they know my policy.

I moved my 2 yo DCB to the main nap room which is further away from the kitchen (as he was waking up early when DH got home and would make himself lunch)
I've been getting 3 hour naps from him all week because I'm able to make the room so dark and QUIET.

Sharing "positive" for the last day of the work week, lol...
The week started off so sloooooow.... and yet here it is...Friday! I always get excited for Fridays...it means "grown-up" and "me" time! it also means focusing on my family and not giving them leftovers or half of my attention. My favourite part is "Friday Night Date Night!" This is when my husband plans a date night for us once a week.
Back when we decided this was important to us, I told him it was "his" responsibility to organize or think up of because I am always the one that organizes all family events (we have 6 boys, lol..youngest is 14), appointments, financial tasks, meal planning, grocery and errand shopping, etc etc... This was going to be his opportunity to express his gratitude by thinking of a date for Fridays. I know we both win on these dates, and they are by far not expensive dinner dates...sometimes just a ride in the country with the windows down with one on one chats as best friends. It's something I really crave after a week of little people, lol.
However Sunday night...I get homesick for my little ones all over again and the week starts over, lol..
Enjoy your weekend ladies and men!
Have a blessed one and be safe!
x0x..

My new dck with motor delays climbed up the kiddie slide by herself this morning. (it's 3 feet tall and I was right there) She was so determined. Then she did it no less than a dozen times. I took a few pictures for her Mom. Go baby go! SOOOO proud of her. I love her excited toddler screeching when she gets here every morning, today when I bent down to say good morning, she held the sides of my face with her hands and kissed me (wet toddler kisses).

This was after screaming at drop off for a full 18 months.

I can't wait until they see her new skills at PT this afternoon. They have a small climber that she couldn't use just Monday.

Oh my, just picturing the wet toddler kisses made my whole day!! Course new skills learned when a child has delays is always a winner of a day too.

Well Mike, I've learned the big things can cause an equal amount of pain. Or maybe that's just the pessimistic me talking this a.m.

I have beens stressing about insurance coverage. Our home insurance company has been steadily dropping providers and I have been worried about being the next dropped. Also they will only insure up to 4 children when legally I can have 5. Wondering what is going to happen if I can't get coverage.

I reached out to some local providers who recommended a company. I just got off the phone and they will insure up to 6 children. I just had liability before and with this policy it also covers loss of income! I am just waiting for the quote (so hopefully it isn't too outrageous)!

Had a wonderful interview with clients with a four year old yesterday.....don't get many kids that age with free Pre-K in the picture....plus they actually had heard about MY preschool program. I am leaning toward enrolling them but wanted to think a couple days and not be too hasty.

Came across a JMason pack and play on CL.

Seller was willing to deliver AND reduced the price because she said she couldn't find any info about them online so she thought that was a negative thing.

She had advertised it for $20 (which is already a great deal) but sold it to me for $10!

Turns out someone gifted it to her years ago and since it was blue and she had a girl, she used it only a couple times so it's pretty much like new.

Thanks to NannyDe, I am giddy when I find one of these PNP's.... they really are one of the nicest ones I've seen made.

That family that I recently termed and had such a hard time doing so: I am SO glad that they're gone! Life here is so much more peaceful, the kids get along, no one asks if they have to pay anymore, aaaaand: I was off work today at 4:15. No more showing up last minute or late for pickup! My families that told me that they'd pick up by my 5:30 closing time are nearly always out of here by 5, and sometimes earlier. I can't believe what getting off work 90 minutes early can do for me! If they're on your nerves, let them go-I wish I'd have done it sooner!

In June I told a DCF to pay reserve rate for June & July and skip August fees because they were going to be gone all summer. Not something I would normally do, but DCF has been a great family for 9 years & I only saw DCB for 4 days all summer. Today was the first day DCB came back. She handed me a check for full tuition for the rest of the month. When I said something about our agreement she said how thankful they were DCB had a spot and how much they liked it here. A week after losing a DCF who said they did it to save money then went a bought a $30K truck over the weekend (they posted it on Facebood and I saw a mutual friend's comment on it) it really meant a lot. Although the extra $ is nice, I will admit the words meant far more.

A local provider who had been providing care for 48+ years went into retirement this week, and began selling her daycare items. I bought 2 like new PNP's for $10/each. I am so excited about new PNP's, as I needed 2 additional ones and was not quite ready to fork over $40+ for just one!

My Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate baby is back today after palate repair surgery a week ago. She is doing so great today, only one small crying spell while we waited for pain meds to kick in. She is doing a half day today and tomorrow, and hopefully back to full time on Monday.

Had 5 instead of 6 kids today. 1 infant didn't come. My husband and I split up in 2 groups still in the living room but kind of on opposite ends. The morning went so well minus dcb 2.5 outbursts, but that didn't last long.

You sure you didn't have my old family that I termed? lol When I termed them that is exactly what happened to me. So happy and now with another dcb leaving, I will be open until 430pm instead of 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well 6pm was my old closing time before June. I moved it to 530pm but had recently been working only until 515pm. Now with 1 dcb leaving, and another's schedule changing, I am sooooooo excited. Hoping I can fill my slot with someone who leaves at 430pm or earlier.

My first day back with the dcks after having July and August off!

There were a few tears this morning (they were mine ) but overall it's been a great day. We'll have some work to do around naps (don't I always? ) but it's been great to have the dcks back and see how much they've grown and changed over the summer.

I know it's not for everyone, but restructuring and offering the summer off for teachers (and only having teachers as clients) was the best thing for my state of mind. I feel refreshed and excited about the upcoming year.

So, we did well this month budget/bonus wise and dcb won't be here tomorrow. I went ahead and told them to not worry about payment for today (wonderful family, and I feel like if God puts me in a position to bless others, I need to do it.) Dcm however refused, saying they would absolutely be paying for tomorrow (still keeping dcb out) and brought me an iced coffee as a surprise. Also said how she loves leaving him here and thanks God each time she drops off that He made this happen (kind of a long story).
Then dcf number two, dcm has a doctor's appointment so she kept dcb home and let us all sleep in (he's my first drop off) and dropped him off on the way to the appointment instead of dcd doing it at his normal time. She dropped off a ton of tissues, cleaning supplies, wipes (her kiddo isnt even in diapers anymore) and said another box would be coming with glue sticks, paint and tape (she knows what we use a ton of lol). And is picking up half an hour early (her drs appointments need a day of recovering after, totally understand and encourage her to take that time to just rest).
I am just amazed and so thankful for the blessings today. After a pretty rough day yesterday, it was so, so, encouraging.

I only have 1 DCK this week. Number 2 is on vacation and number 3 is holding a spot until he can begin in November. This week DCB's dad is dropping off, so he is arriving about an hour later than mom.

I should be working on tax stuff right now....but instead I am sitting outside enjoying the 70 degree weather. Soaking it up before it hits 95 today.

My poor DF is home from work sick for the first time since I opened daycare. Stomach flu and fever have him quarantined to our bedroom. Luckily, we have a light day today. 1 full day kiddo, 1 half day kiddo, the third is always off on Monday's. To make it even better, both kiddos, and my DF, have been napping for the past 2 hours. I was able to get a big pot of homemade chicken noodle soup made for DF, and enjoy the calm.

I've been really sad lately about the prospect of my almost 1 year old leaving the infant room and moving to the 1-year-old room. He meets all of the milestones to move in mid-October except walking.

I talked to the director about it and was told that they're leaning towards holding my baby back until the next change (in January) when he will be 15 months (regardless of him walking). I AM SO RELIEVED!!!

I also did a tour of the 1-year-old room. It's so cute, but he definitely isn't ready to be in there just yet

If you only wanted $5. you can always send me the difference.
Congratulations

I read a news article once a while back about a person who went to cash their ticket. I don't remember the numbers, but the customer went in a store with a ticket and told the cashier "I won such and such" and gave the cashier the ticket. The cashier checked and gave the customer that money. The manager somehow found out at the end of the day that the ticket was worth a lot more, but the cashier only gave the owner what they were expecting and pocketed the rest. The cashier was fired and the proper money was given to the person it should have went to. This was before tickets had to be signed, and the machines verbally announced the winnings.

DCM (been here about 6 weeks) forgot her checkbook on Friday. Said she'd bring payment today. I was a little confused at first because it was too much, then I remembered the late fee-she paid it without me having to ask for it! I swear that has NEVER happened before!

Its a gloriously gloomy day. We got our outside play time in just before the rain. Pumpkin soup for lunch along with reading one of my favorite children's books while they ate (Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper). I am brewing a fresh pot of coffee, now hopefully if the kiddos fall asleep fast enough, I will have time to get my nap time chores done AND read some of the novel I am working through. Happy Monday!

I had 2 very nice surprises in my life yesterday. First dcp in the door had their dd hand me a gift. Then at 4, a former dcm and her dd showed up, dd had made me a card and given me a couple of pictures of herself. Normally I don't give a hoot about my birthday but the fact that these 2 families have marked the day on their calendar just so they could remember....that meant a lot to me.

It is nice when someone remembers it. 2 birthdays I will never forget, my 30th and 50th. Total opposites.

My 30th, I had no plans and was just treating it like another day, then a family I was babysitting for regularly called that afternoon and asked if I could watch the kids that evening. I had no plans, so said sure. Got to their house, parents leave, then kids show me cake mix and we get to work. That was my 2nd best birthday of my life.

Big 5 0 almost 3 years ago, my mother bakes a cake that afternoon. Nothing else happens, nobody calls, texts, or sends cards. A week before, I decided I wanted to go bowling for my birthday. I have a friend (cousin) that sometimes goes with me, but she was busy that day. She always gets me some little gift, a belt one year, a windshield wiper another year, always something I need, but for my 50th, even she forgot.

How's that for total opposites.

Ok, by 6:30 a.m. I was thanking the heavens for not getting skunked twice.
One of my dogs was barking to go outside just after midnight and she sounded like she meant it. So I get them on their leashes and we get to the outside steps, they start lunging and trying to go after something. About 5' away I see something turn tail and run. It was eating underneath our bird feeders. We have lots of animals in our neighborhood so I talked myself into it being a cat.
Same exact thing happens at 6:30 as it's light enough to see. Yep, a skunk. I am SO thankful the dogs and I weren't sprayed.

Had a dcm reach out to me for drop-in care yesterday. She's coming tomorrow to meet us and wants to have dcb come Wednesday. I grew up with her and use to hang out with her when we were in middle school. So happy she thought of us for her dcb. I heard her son is a little well LOT of bit antsy, but we'll see how it goes.

Such a great day!

We had our first snow here overnight (dusting, not even an inch)

Two kids are out until Monday because grandma is visiting.

One stayed home with Mom who didn't feel like going in today.

I had THREE boys, who all get along pretty well today. We played outside in the snow (mush) for hours this morning and then ate a great lunch, read a few stories and they have all been out for over two hours.

LOVE days like today!!!

It is Moaning Myrtles last day today!!! DCM brought me a thank you card, flowers, a poem (signed by DCB who just learned how to write his name this month), and a gift card to a local bakery. So sweet! And so ready for him to move on

AND it is a gorgeous, sunny, warm, fall day! The leaves are so beautiful. We went for a hike and took some great pics of the kiddos for their parents

I am 20 weeks pregnant this week and announced to the rest of my families that I am expecting. I was so nervous to send the emails - didn't want to have a long talk at pick up - you guys know how hard that is One family brought me flowers as a way to say congratulations. I thought it was so thoughtful of them and considering I was so nervous to tell families, their kindness made my day.

Oh the things that I can accomplish when EVERY ONE sleeps at nap time!

I researched this forum like a mad woman & then applied my newly found info.! I updated my contract, wrote out a list of "friendly"reminders to the DCP. I feel so refreshed!!

Gotta love my hubby. He just walked to the gas station in the snow to pick up a newspaper for me. Now I can plot out the Black Friday sales during free play this afternoon.

We were able to pick up our kittens yesterday!

This means we will have to bring the girl kitten in for her spaying, and monitor her stitches, but otherwise it would have been two more weeks.
My kids are so happy

One of my dcgs has been with me for a year and not been able to say my name. Granted, it's not an easy name to say. We've been spending a lot of time naming people in our lives over the past few months and yesterday she said my name!! My heart melted a little to hear it.

When dcb got picked up by his grandma and aunt (dcms younger sister), auntie blurts out hey DCF, ready for school in 2 months?

Dcb will be 3 in 2 months. Dcm hasn't mentioned anything to me. I will be excited if he leaves as he is my most challenging. I do have spots to fill but I don't care. The kids will come.

I just got back from the fire station, dropping off donations for their Santa Fund they do for area towns. All the dcks were super excited to go. We tried to hurry along because Santa was supposed to be driven to the mall in a fire truck but the dcks didn't know that. All the people there were so great, they let the kids climb up inside the truck and all of a sudden Santa comes in and does the ole Ho Ho Ho. OMG you shoulda seen all their eyes bug out! It was so fun.

I am very thankful that on snowdays, I don't have to scramble and find childcare for my son. When I was working a 9-5, that was a huge stress.

DCM paid not just her late fee (she was 10 minutes late yesterday) but doubled it cause she felt bad about taking me away from my family and "you always do so much for our family!" Made me feel pretty good.

That's wonderful when they understand how it affects us and doubling the late fee/expressing her appreciation was a nice touch.

I have a 7 month old baby who is in the 99% for height and weight. She's huge! Growing out of size 3 diapers. But she's a blast! Always happy. Always laughing. This baby sleeps 2 great naps per day, asleep in 2 minutes every time.

She's so beautiful she looks like she should be a baby model.

I generally don't like caring for kids under 9 months in a mixed age group setting, but this dcg makes myself and everyone else around her happy

My ds was like that, a GIANT, huge blue eyed, grinning, happy baby. He was a charm to have in dc. (until he was 3)

I hadn't planned to take the day either (I swapped the day for another later in the year) but also realized no one needed me so I took the day off...

Now of course my ONE part time mom is mad that I won't be available for her.....not that she has to work or anything but she has "things to do"

Not. MY. problem.

Glad you were able to get a bonus day off!

Now that's how you do snow- less than an inch of light powder that you don't even have to break out the shovel for. Just grab the push broom and sweep off the driveway and sidewalk in a few minutes.

We've been dumped on recently... no where to put it and it's just now January... when the real snow accumulations start

Plus it's -24F actual temp (-37F with windchill)

It would be super nice if I could sweep snow away....

Today is my baby's last day in the infant room.
It's bittersweet, he's been with the main two girls in his room since he was 1 month old

He's definitely ready for the toddler room though, he's going to love it. They eat at a tiny little table (and not in high chairs) anymore, it's going to be so new to him, I can't wait to see how he does!

I felt silly giving his teachers cards this morning because I know he will still see them a ton, but they love him and he loves them too.
