Today is a greatest-hits reel of my most ineffective phrases:

"Find a thing to do that doesn't involve picking on another person."

"If you do that, you will get hurt."

"Oh, bummer. You did that and you got hurt."

"Lunch is in three more hours. If you do not eat your snack, you will have to wait until lunch."

"Ah, you are hungry. You did not eat your snack and now you are hungry. Lunch is in two hours and fifty-seven minutes."

"DON'T PINCH MY NIPPLE."

Our hands are not for hitting our friends.

Put on your listening ears.

Worry about yourself not what Johnny is doing.

"We use nice hands with our friends."

"She is telling you no, you need to respect that. No means no."

"If you can not sit on your booty you can not be on the couch."

"It's time to focus on you, and not on Sally."

"Sally you are going at turtle speed. We need to be quick like a bunny!"

"Fingers/toys don't go in mouthes."

"It is nap time. We need to lay down, close our eyes, and get some good sleep. There will be NO screaming, and no playing. Nap time is important because it gives you a break from friends and toys, and allows your body to rest so that you can have a happy attitude this afternoon." --Seriously said to each child as I lay them down, every single day. *knock on wood* my usually bad sleeper and screamer has been a nap pro this week.

And the most used, "GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR PANTS!"

"Your mind and your body need rest" is what I tell them. And "You will not keep the other kids awake." That there's some name-it-and-claim-it theology. I'm trying to speak my best life into being. It's not working!

For my own kid, it's "Where is your hand? No, not that hand. The other hand. In your pants, huh? Why is it there? You don't know? Go wash your hands. You could get an eye infection. GROSS."

Oh, I am totally with you on trying to speak my best life into being. I am trying to give them clear and concise directions that are easily achievable for them. I find that when I lay out my expectations for them they are more willing to meet them.

We have taken to calling our 18mo DS Al Bundy because his hands are ALWAYS down his pants. He has to have a onsie on at all times because he has a spot above his bottom that is raw from him always scratching at it, no matter how many aquaphor applications I get on in a day.

To DCPs- "That information should be in your contract/ the letter I sent out last week."

To DCKs- "You choose your plan. You don't tell X how to play."

In my head and never aloud- "If you weren't such an obnoxious PITA to the other children they might want to play with you more."

And 'what did I just say? Keep your hands to Your self!'

Time to clean up.
Can we please pick up now?
We need to pick up so we can find our toys next time we want to play with them.
You don't want H**** and J****(my dogs) to eat those toys do you?
Can I help you clean up?
Ok, you can sit here until you're ready to clean up.

There are so many things I say inside my own head, just hope I don't blurt them out some day.

Lately it has been:

"Take your hands out of your underwear"
(newly potty trained DCB)

and

"Fingers out of your mouth please. Go wash your hands." To a 5.5 year old.

"Walking feet"

"Your mouth belongs on your body only"

and

"Get your hands out of your pants"

Oh and don't forget...

"Stop doing that to that (blanket.. bear.. chair)" I've currently got a kid that likes to take advantage of things.

I can't understand you when you're crying. Please use your big kid words.

Whose job is that? What's your job?

Inside voices please.

When you do such & such... I'll know you're ready to move on.

You don't have to go to sleep, but you do have to rest quietly.

How about a kleenex?

Give it a try.

Walking feet inside.

Indoor voices.

Listening ears.

On your bum please.

Time for resting your body.

We go DOWN the slide.

Let's try that again. "May I have turn when you're all done?"

Lie down.

Lie back down.

Lie down.

LIE DOWN.

"Joh-NNY!" just as Johnny is winding up to pop another kid. He freezes, then reels, goes off-balance, and half the time flings himself to the floor to scream at the injustice of it all.

I see your finger in your nose, you need a tissue.
That's not a snack, please go get a tissue.
Here's a tissue.
We throw our tissue in the trash can not on the floor.
No, I don't want your tissue, please go put in the trash can.
