Little me daycare 07:36 PM 03-06-2013
Hi,
I am in the process of opening a home daycare .. Ages between 1-3 yrs old probably. I am trying to make a " daily schedule" the issue I am having is, should lunch be before or after nap?..
Thank you !

I find that the kiddies sleep better on full tummies. So we have lunch, potty break, brush teeth & wash up, cots out, story time and down for nap. Same routine every single day. It helps them settle down if they have the same nap routine daily and I very rarely have issues. They usually fall asleep within 15-20 minutes.

Your 1 year old may need an early morning nap if they aren't down to one nap yet but usually around then I have been able to drop the first nap, do an earlier lunch and put them down by noon. My kids get here by 06h30 so they have had a full morning by then. Occasionally on the morning walk someone will crash but, other than that, lunch first and then nap works for me.

Eat then nap. I have a 18 mo old that has transitioned to one afternoon nap and most times it works. right now I am trying to put him off another 30 min til lunch.

After lunch
I do it after lunch. They sleep well on full tummies.
I have a 15 month old that still needs an am nap occasionally (she's awake with mom @ 5:45-6:15am, DCD brings her @ 9) so sometimes she sleeps 945-1045 then is up til her next nap which is usually 1-3. If she doesn't take/need an am nap on any given day she follows the same schedule as everyone else.
The rest of my DCKS (another 15mo, 2, 3, 3):
Lunch: 11:45
Potty/Diapers: 12:15ish
Nap: 12:30 to 3

The home daycare I used to work at they normally sheduled it about 1 hour before nap time (lunch 12, nap 1-3). The provider noramally had a large group and the table and counter didn't always have enough space so the kids would eat in shifts after outside time. After lunch the kids normally had about a 1/2 hour to watch a little tv or read to wind down and make sure everyone goes to the bathroom and all the babies are changed and set up the mats for nap. Sometimes if kids are too gassy or full they have a hard time falling asleep because they get overheated and uncomfortable but if their tummies are too empty they will also have a hard time falling alseep.
The babies under 2.5 years normally took morning naps as well. Usually about 10am-11am (during their preschool program). If they didn't nap and were not disruptive they would be able to sit in during preschool or one of the assistants not teaching preschool would try to find something for them to do.

Those children taking two naps a day nap from 9/9:30-10:30 and again from 1/1:30 - 3:30. And then all of our kids take a nap from 1:30-3:30.

We do "quiet time" from 12-2. Lunch is around 11:15 with free time after until noon if the kids finish early. My baby may take an earlier nap, but generally falls asleep around 11. My kids don't have to nap, but they must lay quietly until 2. I let my oldest daycare kid get up once and play quietly during quiet time after everyone else fell asleep, and never again. He could not play quietly. Woke everyone up.

Lunch before naps. I find that full bellies = better naps. I do move lunch a little eariler if I have a younger group who are just giving up AM naps. One of the perks of being the boss
My AM naps are scheduled from 8-10, and everyone is up by/at 10 (older infants/younger toddlers who are being weaned from AM naps are up a little eariler) I find it to be easier so that everyone is ready for the PM nap at the same time.

I do naps after lunch. By the time they lay down and their little head hit the pillow they are sleep!
